SAY HELLO TO THE BAD GUY!!!!

marvin.harrison.jpg

"If you have kids you want them to play like Marvin Harrison. He is a good guy. He gives the ball to the ref and does not act like a fool as opposed to his counter part Chad Johnson a bad guy". Scott Van Pelt ESPN Radio

No, no, no, no, no!!!! You know something, I am tired of this. If you only read one article from BlackSportsOnline, this is the one I want you to read. If you aren't an idiot, an imbecile, a fool, a numbskull, an ignoramus or just a flat out retard, you are going to read this statement. Repeat it twice and never forget it:

"YOU CAN NOT JUDGE SOMEONE' S CHARACTER BY HIS ACTIONS ON A COURT OR FIELD."

Honestly, do you know how stupid you sound when you judge how a person acts off the field from a few highlight clips on ESPN? Do you know how foolish you sound when you say a person is classy because he hands the ball to the ref and doesn't trash talk? It is just idiotic talk and it is time for that to stop. ESPN is not your moral compass. Chris Berman is influencing you by his commentary. Do a search on YouTube and you will see just how nice some of your prized athletes are in real life.

The simple fact is you don't know what is happening behind close doors. If I told you two weeks ago that an NFL Wide Receiver would be involved in a gun incident and asked you to pick the most likely and least likely receiver to be involved, I am 100% sure that the first two names that would be considered most likely would be:

1- Chad Johnson
2- T.O.

And the least likely would be:

1- Marvin Harrison

I have nothing against Marvin Harrison. I think he is an excellent receiver. For all I know he will be cleared of all these charges. The point is that everyone in the media has repeatedly told you that Marvin is a good guy and players like Chad and T.O. are bad guys.

The basis of those assumptions goes like this. Marvin is quiet. Marvin hands the ball to the refs. Marvin doesn't boast or really talk at all. On the contrary players like Owens and Johnson are boisterous, entertaining, and loud.

This it the information we are basing our opinions on. Once again I want you to think about that for a minute. It breaks down as simply as one is quiet and one is loud. That is all we know about these people personally. Because the media drills it in your mind that being flamboyant is a bad thing we assume those individuals are bad people.

The ironic thing about is that if every player was like Marvin Harrison there wouldn't be an ESPN. There wouldn't be sports talk radio. There damn sure wouldn't be a BlackSportsOnline.

You would think after the Kobe Bryant Colorado incident that you would have learned your lesson. Kobe's squeaky clean image turned to mud. You would think that we would heed the words of A.I. when he said:

"Everybody has some dirt under their fingernails".

You would think after watching Roger Clemens be shown to be first a liar and then just a horrible person you would have learned your lesson.

You would think after learning Dr. J and Karl Malone are deadbeat dads you would have learned your lesson.

Apparently you haven't because you are still falling for the same thing on a daily basis. You will watch the NBA playoff coverage and think Rasheed Wallace is a bad guy and Tim Duncan is a good guy. You don't know. I don't know. Nobody knows.

This is a form of media prejudice. This has been going on for too long and our society as a whole should be smart enough to figure this out. There are truly bad people in sports and sometimes they are easily identified i.e. Chris Henry. Beyond that, we have no idea who is really the "bad guy". Getting technical fouls or doing an end zone dance aren't the type of profile character tells if someone is more likely to beat their wife or shoot someone up in the club.

Once a long time ago someone asked me if I had a son would I rather them be like Chad Johnson or Marvin Harrison. They were appalled when I said Chad Johnson. When I explained to them I would rather have a son that is out going, fun, generous and hard working, but occasionally puts their foot in their mouth. As oppose to someone who is an introvert, sits alone on the bench, and appears to be way too serious. When I told them this, they weren't quite as appalled.

I am not telling you what to believe. What I am telling you is not to prejudge. Don't be shocked that someone who appears to be lily white in front of the cameras turns out to be a snake behind them. It isn't a black and white thing. It is a common sense thing. It is about time you start using yours.

The realist ish you ever wrote

ummmmmmmmmmm Mr. Harrison isn't a suspect even though we know his gun was used

I like the way you think young man

While I never judged T.O. and Ocho Cinco based on their on the field actions off the field you are also a hypocrite as well. You're assuming that MH is guilty of something and it hasn't been proven yet. If he is guilty I want him punished but if he's not and you still are writing this as some way to go against the mainstream media regardless of the facts of the case. How much better are you?

you are right, but you will never convince (the average) white person of this fact

BREAK IT DOWN

To Basketball Fan this is an exact quote from the article

I have nothing against Marvin Harrison. I think he is an excellent receiver. For all I know he will be cleared of all these charges. The point is that everyone in the media has repeatedly told you that Marvin is a good guy and players like Chad and T.O. are bad guys.

Hard to be a hypocrite when you don't accuse anyone of something.

Littal is exactly right for once

Not to get off topic but WTF is wrong with harrison's eyes

Best article in awhile

Then why is this post titled "Say Hello to the Bad Guy" and have a pic of Marvin beneath it. Surely you are implying something about him are you not?

And this is coming from someone that doesn't hate T.O. or Chad Johnson.

The article is title that because it is too illustrate we don't know who is the buy guy. The pic of Marvin Harrison and using him as an example of how you just don't who is bad or not. I could have used a pic of Roger Clemens. The point is still the same.

People read what they want. You have to put disclaimers out there because words become misconstrued.

"Once a long time ago someone asked me if I had a son would I rather them be like Chad Johnson or Marvin Harrison."

Bet ya it was a somebody from Cincinnati that asked ya that question

It wasn't my gun...ooooooooops forgot I left it in the bucket

Your dead on Right on! and I'm white[thats for kb-maybe im not average] It's all about the spin that you create. The fact is we know nothing or next to nothing about the character of these athletes. Never believe the hype!
