favre50606.jpgPeople accept other jobs which pay higher salaries thus enabling them to provide a better life for their families. However, only in the world of sports are what are essentially employees villified for doing so. Thus is the contradiction of the fan as it relates to athletes. After hearing that Brett Favre wanted to return from his brief retirement, I like everyone else had a reaction to his rumored decision. Of course, many persons have already formed an opinion. Some are calling him selfish for not considering Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers as a whole as he waffles back and forth in terms of his commitment to playing professional football. Those individuals would not be wrong in their assessment. But would those individuals be hypocritical?

There are plenty people in my father's inner circle (the 55 and older group) who have retired only to go back to their company either in a consulting role or sometimes even in the role that they had previously left. We expect athletes to never leave for greener pastures, unretire, ask for more money from their employer, and seek more of a role in whatever business they are employed in. Yet, we all do the same things that we expect them not to do. T-Mac was booed in Toronto after he left because he wanted an opportunity to carry the load of a franchise just as us regular folk have accepted management positions as opposed to remaining in an entry level position. When A-Rod left Seattle for Texas, fans hated him and haven't stopped having disdain for him sense. Its built on jealousy. But those same fans have left jobs of their own because another company is offering more money and/or opportunity. I myself as a child ended up living in Mesa, Arizona because my father was offered an increased role and salary with a company here in comparison to the one he had in Texas. Essentially, fans are hypocrites and are as selfish as Brett Favre is right now. We want the players to do what we want them to do because we are looking at our own interests. Fans hated Kobe Bryant for his behavior in requesting a trade because they wanted him to be a Laker, not because Kobe was breaking any moral code. To further drive home the point, the same fans in Dallas who hated Terrell Owens in San Francisco and Philadelphia are the same fans who now cheer for him as he is catching touchdowns from Tony Romo. So why do I not care about Brett Favre wanting to return to quarterback the Green Bay Packers? Because I know that in many ways, I am just as selfish as he is. What really gets people is Brett Favre having the power to do what he does. He has leverage within the Packer organization and within the Green Bay community. Mostly though, what really gets people is that Brett Favre isn't playing for their team.

His ass needs to sit down

Good Look Cornelus.

I definitely agree. Imagine having done something for over 20 years and then being told in your mid thirites that it's time for you to shut it down permanently. I'm in my mid-thirtes and couldn't imagine having to end my career permanently right now.

We don't want him

my my azz tazte

Your ass taste like Sh*t Shaq

I am coming back too

Can I come back?

I don't think anyone has a problem with him still wanting to play football, but the problem is his constant waffling on whether he will retire or not. This year he made the decision to retire even after the Packers made plans for him to come back. At some point the Packers had to let him know that it wasn't okay for him to keep doing that.

No one made him retire, he made that choice on his own...if he can't live with it, he should have never made that choice to begin with.
