We all know that when it comes to fan interest, the NFL is king right now. Over the past five to ten years, they've pretty much managed to knock every other sport out there into relative also ran status. Yes, plenty of other sports draw well and put up decent ratings, but they're nothing compared to what the NFL is putting up right now. And for all intents and purposes, they're untouchable. No matter what seems to pop up, they ultimately come away unscathed.

Spygate did zero damage to them whatsoever. They have more criminals earning paychecks than all the other leagues combined, but are held up by the public in higher regard than the 'thugs' of the NBA. But nothing is more outrageous than the way they continue to trick us out of our time and money over things that don't warrant much of either. Just think about these things, how trivial they should be to us, and how important we make them out to be:

The NFL Network OK, so let me get this straight. What we really needed was a 24-hour/ 7-day a week television channel that gives us a few hours of the same highlights and game recaps we can get on ESPN, along with twenty hours of the same kind of worthless banter we get on ESPN's 'NFL Live' show during the week. And that's just during the season.

In the offseason, we get to watch the combine (guys scamming GMs into drafting them by doing well at things they'll never have to do during actual games) and a bunch of stuff from NFL Films that we can see on ESPN already. And for this, they want to force cable companies to charge us more money. And when some news breaks that requires real investigative reporting, you know they'll play it right down the middle and give us the truth and not propaganda. Right........ Quick question: can anyone give me any real reason to watch the NFL Network instead of ESPN?

Preseason Games OK, so they hold some games that don't count, where the main players on each team aren't even playing after the first quarter, and charge us full price. Brilliant! Well, it is brilliant because PEOPLE REALLY DO PAY FOR IT. And just what do we get from these exhibitions? Nothing! You don't get any insight into who's going to rise and fall on the depth chart, because all of that is determined in practice.

Yes, a good performance by a second stringer can solidify his position but you will not see anyone win a starting job based on what he does in a preseason game. The veteran players don't even want to be in there, and every coach is hoping and praying that none of his key guys get hurt. Some coaches do so little to prepare for them that they get whupped 30 to 0 and don't even care! And yet, like lapdogs people eat this stuff up because they think they're seeing important roster battles decided. Sorry folks, most of the roster spots are sewn up before the first preseason game is played. They mean next to nothing.

The Combine As I mentioned before, they show the combine on the NFL Network. And like the network itself, it's worthless. Think for a minute, people: Since when did watching guys in shorts and t-shirts run 40 yard dashes make for good television? And like the preseason games, they mean nothing. Yes, some guys who can't even play will get drafted earlier because they ran well and bench pressed 225 pounds a whole bunch of times, but those guys will eventually wash out as busts. Is watching the next Mike Mamula fool people into picking him in the top ten, a good use of anyone's time? It sure isn't for me.

Personal Seat Licenses This may be the best scam of all. They charge a ridiculous amount of money, well into the thousands of dollars, for the right to buy season tickets. Imagine going to Wal Mart and having to pay a fee just for the right to buy stuff there. Would you do that? Of course not! But you'll pay thousands of dollars for the right to pay thousands of dollars later on. Makes no sense to me, but I guess some people just can't do without their precious seats in the stadium.

NFL Sunday Ticket Ask yourself a few questions: Are you a fan of: 1. The local team? 2. One of it's division rivals? 3. A team in the region? 4. A Super Bowl contender? 5. A team that's a big draw?

If you answered "no" to all five, Sunday Ticket makes sense. But if you answered "yes" to any of them, and you ordered Sunday Ticket, shame on you! Why? Because you'll get to see most, if not all, of your favorite team's games without it! And if you have no favorite team and just like football, guess what? You have at least one game every week at 1 and 4 on free TV! You also get a Sunday night game on free TV!

But wait...there's more! You also get Monday Night Football on a channel you already paid for! So just why do you need Sunday Ticket? The same reason you need a H2 when you live in the suburbs: So that you can tell everyone else you have it.

So, there's some food for thought. Be wise with your money, or else you may one find yourself wondering why you're broke and the NFL isn't.

I totally disagree with you in regards to the Sunday Ticket. I live in a state where I am not a fan of either local organizations, the Redskins and Ravens and I don't want to watch them every Sunday. Why should I have to wait until 4PM or Sunday night to cure my craving for football?

2, The local stations don't have the right to change the schedule, meaning changing the game. So for example, when Mike Vick was still in the league and had gotten hurt, the game between Atlanta and New Orleans fell to the bottom of "what to watch." So I'm clicking to the next playoff contenders.

3, I love the Red Zone & Player tracker. If your a fantasy football fanatic as I am, I have it set up to show me when somebody on my roster has scored points.

4 and final point. I have three men in my house (hubby, 2 sons) that love football as much as I do and none of us route for the same team. The Sunday Ticket brings peace to my house on Sunday's along with family time, even if we're all in different rooms! lol

Some people believe football is a matter of life and death. I'm very disappointed with that attitude.
I can assure you it is much, much more important than that.
