Beginning of The End For Vince Young

vyover.jpg

By now you have heard various reports about Titans Quarterback Vince Young. Let me provide a timeline of the events for you to get an idea of what is going on and then give my thoughts.

Late Sunday Night: Reports come out that Vince may have told Jeff Fisher that he did not want to reenter the game after being booed lustfully by the home crowd. After some prodding Vince goes back in and injuries his knee that will keep him out for 2-4 weeks.

Around 7ish Monday Night: Young leaves his house in what was describe as an "emotional" state and family members very concerned about Young's mental state contact the Titans.

Around midnight: After the police put out a bulletin on Young's vehicle. Young came to the Titans facility and were met by Jeff Fisher and the police.

Here is a quote from the police:

"Given the totality of the circumstances, a bulletin was issued to all on-duty officers to be on the lookout for Young's vehicle," Metro police spokesman Don Aaron said. "Police negotiators were also placed on stand-by not knowing what his emotional status was."

Aaron also acknowledged that "Young had been emotionally [sic] all day when he abruptly left his Williamson County home without his cell phone and sped away."

Today: The Tennessean reports that Young had an "unloaded" gun in car at the time he was found.

Now that you have a complete and total idea of the events that happened let me give you my take on the situation.

There have been rumbles that Vince Young has not enjoyed his time in the NFL. The NFL is a grueling sport and unless you are 100% committed to it physically and mentally you aren't going to make it. Vince was a Superstar in college, but the transition to the pros especially for a Quarterback is so difficult that it doesn't matter if you are a 1st round pick or a street free agent if you don't have the mental makeup for the job you are going to fail.

Young has regressed each season he has been in the league which is the opposite of what should be happening. His focus and commitment has been questioned. I have it on good authority that some Titans players and some in the front office believe Kerry Collins gives them the best chance to win.

When he was drafted I thought he had the greatest upside but there was also a potential for disaster. I think the worse thing that happened to him is his team had success his 1st year in spite of meager numbers and spite of him not learning the NFL game the way he should. I think that gave him the impression that he could win and succeed just on skills as oppose to honing his craft.

When he told Yahoo Sports in the offseason he was contemplating retirement I knew that his time in this league could be coming to an end soon. It is understandable veterans players like Brett Favre going back and forth on retirement because they have been in the grind for so long. But a player coming off his 2nd year in the league is normally chomping at the bit to get to that next year if they truly desire to be great.

Does Vince Young have that desire? Does he have that drive and dedication to become an elite Quarterback? Or when it gets tough is he going to do what he did last night and "run". It is ironic that he is running away from problems when everyone has been trying to teach him to stay patience in the pocket. Ironic indeed.

I am not crying no tears

RL I called this a couple of weeks ago. VY is on his way to being a bust because he wasn't emotionally prepared for the challenges of the league

yea he needs 2 learn that your gonna get booed everytime and that u gonna have bad games trust me i was booed wen i got drafted by my fans

I'm a bust right? I want a apology Littal.I remember you talking smack about me

I have never made it to the playoffs

I can not believe that VY is ready to retire after two years. This sounds like foolishness to me. Surely VY did not think the league would be a cake walk. Every year someone is after your spot. Come on VY..... where is your faith in GOD. He did not bring you this far to leave you. I love VY as a QB.....I think he has the skills to make it...the devil is a liar. Get with it VY- get with it.

I thought I would be playing USC every week I was wrong

...and the Texans get the last laugh

But i will this year.
