I don't know about you, but I can think of one person who is happy the Mets missed the playoffs this year. For the second consecutive season, the New York Mets choked in the clutch, and threw away an opportunity to advance to the playoffs.
This comes after interim skipper Jerry Manuel promised that they would make it to the postseason, and that the Mets would not fold under his watch.
This also comes after the wrongful firing of Willie Randolph. I'm sure you remember the story. Following a late night west coast trip, GM Omar Minaya had Willie coach the team as a lame duck coach. He easily could have given Willie the axe one day earlier at Shea stadium because Omar knew he was going to fire Willie as early as that Wednesday. To add insult to injury, Willie won his last game.
But I digress, the Mets "possibly" did not make the playoffs because of a horrible bullpen ( I mean everyone knew Billy Wagner was going to get hurt this year, except Omar). The Mets offense also disappeared down the stretch as well.
So while for the second consecutive season, Mets fans are left scratching their heads wondering how this could happen again. The only difference this year is that they have no one to blame but themselves.
