Canseco May Have Regrets, But He Shouldn't

Jose-Canseco.jpgSo Jose Canseco has gone on record stating that he regrets naming names. Well Jose, you have nothing to feel bad about and here is why. Despite the motives of Jose Canseco naming names being to make money and to get back at Major League Baseball, he exposed the media and MLB for what they were which is a bunch of blind men leading the blind.

At the time of his book, the media was after Barry Bonds and they would do anything in their power to make it appear that Barry Bonds was the only baseball player who dared use some enhancement to aid in his performance. Nevermind Luis Gonzalez went from being a platoon player to 50 home run guy. Nevermind Brett Boone went from journey-man second baseman to hitting opposite field homeruns. Nevermind that Sammy Sosa went from a 30 home run guy to a guy who in a bad year would hit 50 home runs. The entire world was focused on Barry Bonds. I recall a local sports radio show here in Arizona defending Roger Clemens back when the whispers first began. I remember calling into the show and asking them how a 40 year old man can throw 90 in the 9th inning and pitch better in his 40's than he did in his physical prime. The answer was because Roger worked hard. Yeah, sure he did. They talked about Rocket Rog as if they were offended that anyone would dare insinuate that a 40+ year old pitcher was getting better and finishing seasons with sub 2 ERA's was doing steroids. Because again, he had some super workouts that no one had access to that led to his foutain of youth. And we know how that story ended.

The Mitchell report did nothing but substantiate most of Canseco's claims. Many of the names that people defended were in this report plus some that no one ever suspected. So what Canseco did was sober up the media and us as fans so that we were brought back into reality. What we as fans need to realize is that at the end of the day, Roger Clemens is the guy at your job who will bend the rules just a little bit so that he can get a promotion and subsequent raise. They are just like us people. They are flawed, sometimes greedy, sometimes unethical, and sometimes people who will cut corners to get ahead. While ESPN is showing you footage of a 40+ year old Roger Clemens working out with a personal trainer in trying to explain how he throws 95 in the 9th inning at that age, think for yourselves people and realize that the media will show you what they want you to see and believe. Roger Clemens isn't any different than Barry Bonds except for the fact that people liked Roger more (Anyone know whats going on with Roger Clemens potential perjury case? Its mysteriously gone away hasn't it. Wish Bonds was as fortunate. Interesting).

Essentially, the athletes were the teenage daughter that is out having sex, drinking, partying, and messing up and the fans were the naive parents who thought their kid was perfect and would never do such a thing. Sometimes when you are too close to a situation you can't see it for what it is. We should never have been upset or shocked that our favorite baseball player cut corners to secure a new contract and seek career milestones. The shock should be that we thought these athletes were perfect and incapable of doing so. And Jose, we thank you for reminding us of that fact even if many of us still neglect to take heed of those lessons today.

I agree with everything you said. Most people don't realize that criminals put more criminals in jail that any law abiding citizen. Like that show "Leverage" on NBC. "Sometimes bad guys make the best good guys."

the only thing he regrets is not making more money off it
