Marbury is the villain and the Knicks are good guys who are trying to see about suspending him, sending him home, and not paying him because he has refused to play after the Knicks ridded themselves of contracts and players? Well...Im going to do the unthinkable..Im going to side with Stephon Marbury. Lets look at the facts here; DiAntoni was hired and Marbury went on to come into training came as light as he has been since his rookie year in great shape. By all accounts, he was alienated from teammates in training camp and put on the bench behind lesser players from the get go and told that he is no longer in their plans. After seeing bench time in the pre-season he was told that he is not and was not going to be playing because the team is going in another direction. Mike DiAntoni even publicly stated this in an interview on national television with TNT's John Thompson.
NOW...because you, the Knicks, decided to purge your roster you have all of a sudden changed your tune and are asking Marbury to play because you have no one else? Sorry, in this case and this case only I side with Marbury. You don't get to tell a girl I won't date you or take you to a dance, ask 5 - 10 other girls out in front of that dejected young lady and then after being told no come back and ask her out again. On top of that to try to suspend him as if they are shocked that he would decline is cold and unprofessional.
I disagreed with how they treated him from the get go anyway because Marbury had never crossed DiAntoni or Donnie Walsh and he was being punished for sins he committed against other coaches and executives. Now they are trying to ask a guy to go all out for them after making it clear to him, the public, and the players they coach that they wanted nothing to do with him. I say that is wrong and I don't blame Marbury one bit for declining the invitation to play. Marbury has made poor decisions throughout his career including breaking up the then new Stockton to Malone combination with Kevin Garnett. But in this situation I don't fault him one bit. Q Richardson further exemplified the contradicting behavior that to me reinforces Marbury's decision not to play. In a quote he criticized Marbury for not playing but towards the end of that same quote talks about how he doesn't see Marbury as a teammate anyway and doesn't think of him at all. So he isn't your teammate but he should suit up and play because he should never abandon his teammates? Marbury knows that the team basically is trying to use him for their own personal use (just to have bodies) and he wants no part of it. If Crawford and Zach Randolph were still there this wouldn't even be an option for Marbury. I know its hard to see Marbury as a sympathetic figure but put yourself in his situation; would you play? I know I wouldn't.
The Knicks played their cards wrong in this situation. They created a situation where they put themselves in a corner that they couldn't get out of. Now, Marbury has no trade value because teams know that the Knicks are desperate to get rid of him and they would just assume to wait to see if he is released. They also put Marbury and the team in a situation where if they needed him that the would likely be unreceptive to playing and his teammates would be unreceptive to him playing. Now, they are in a pickle and in a desperate attempt are trying to offer playing time that is disengenuis and are now trying to suspend him because he won't do their bidding. This disfunctional organization has to be looking good for Lebron New York!

I am not Stephon..I am Starbury
screw him
I think this will lead to more players playing overseas and Europe will be thankful to D'Antoni for this. Eventually NBA will only be as strong as USA men's soccer against other countries. Economy is down and talents as well!
OK, I gotta chime here as a Knicks fan. I was cautiously optimistic when Zeke traded for Marbury, but that went south real quick. I'm ready for him to be gone, but I don't like the way this is going down. I especially don't like it when the media and the front office go out of their way to make him look like a bad guy in the process. Trade him, release him, whatever. He's in the last year of his deal so they're not on the hook for any more money after this season anyway.
