I'm shocked at Shanahan's firing Yes, his team collapsed in a major way to close out the season. And yes, he's gone a few years without making the playoffs. But if there was any coach who was assumed to be a 'made guy' it was Shanahan. He's been there 14 years, and won over 130 games plus two Super Bowls. I guess no one really is safe now. Ultimately I think Shanahan the coach was done in by Shanahan the GM. After all, it was an inability to properly staff the defense that killed the Broncos year in and year out. Over the last two seasons they've been ranked 28th and 30th in yards given up, and were 29th in points surrendered this year. Ouch. Another number that stands out is the 17-20 record the team has since Mike put Jake Plummer on the bench and went with Jay Cutler. Plummer had amassed a 40-19 record as a starter in Denver, and was 7-4 the year he got benched prematurely for the QB of the future. And while Cutler has played well overall, he wasn't very good during the three straight losses the Broncos suffered to close out this season. What probably happened here is that he was told to give up his GM duties and said no, so he got run. He won't be out of a job for too long; in fact, it won't surprise me to see him coaching my Redskins next season.
Tony Romo is in trouble: After talking with several Cowboy fans I know, there seems to be a consensus on who is to blame for the mess the Cowboys are in right now and it isn't Jerry Jones or T.O. Everyone I talked to pointed the finger of blame towards Tony Romo. Romo's saving grace right now is the huge contract Jerry signed him to, but that may not be enough. Word on the street is that he isn't a big enough leader on the field, and I tend to agree. The quarterback has to be able to control his receivers and not let them get the better of him. He has to be able to get in people's faces and tell them to STFU and play, or else he'll find himself forcing bad passes to people just to keep them quiet. Which is pretty much what Romo has been doing a lot of lately. T.O. is T.O; he's not going to change so you have to be able to handle him if you're going to play with him. Romo obviously can't, and with Roy Williams chiming in now the inmates are running the asylum. I've even heard the name Michael Vick mentioned as a potential challenger to Romo once he's free to play. Wow. Stay tuned.
Redskin fans need to lay off Jason Campbell Like Romo, Campbell has been a recent object of scorn from several supporters of his team. The local Sports Radio around here has been blowing up with callers and emailers, as well as some hosts, basically saying that Campbell just flat out isn't good enough to be a starter and that the Redskins should open up a competition for the position in training camp. That is just nonsense. First of all, who are you going to have compete with him? Todd Collins? Give me a break. The man is old as dirt and is no longer playing in the system he spent his whole career in; switching to him would be a disaster. Colt Brennan? The guy who lit up future truck drivers during the fourth quarter of preseason games last summer? Uhh......no. And please don't say we show throw a bunch of money at Scott Michell, I mean matt Cassel. Until you can honestly say that Campbell is hindering our team's chances of winning, and find a legitimately better option, then please stop with with all that already.

He is nothing with out me
