The Real Problem With The Cowboys: Jerry "Skeletor" Jones

The problem with the Cowboys is not Terrell Owens, it's not Tony Romo and it's not Wade Phillips dressing up in the puffy coat like George Canstanza.

The problem with the Cowboys is Jerry "Skeletor" Jones.

He has been the problem since Jimmy Johnson left building. Name me one owner that hogs more of the spotlight than Jerry Jones? I see Jerry Jones more than I see Wade Phillips. When coaching decisions are being made guess who we hear from "Skeletor" Jones. What other owner would have said this about one of their star players being injured.

"He can play with that injured toe," Jones said. "He can play with the soreness, combination of those things. I see nothing that would have led us to believe that he couldn't."

Ironically while Jones questioned Marion Barber's toughness you didn't seem to hear that type of venom for his "Golden Boy" Tony Romo when he missed 4 weeks with a broken pinkie. I don't know about you similar to a QB trying to throw with a broken finger I would imagine it would be difficult to play running back with a dislocated toe. I am not a doctor but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night and I think the last person on the Cowboys you want to criticize for not being tough is Marion Barber.

It isn't a coincidence since "Skeletor" Jones became the face of the franchise that the Cowboys haven't won a playoff game. Since Jones decided he could handle personnel decisions better than a real GM the team as a whole has suffered. Jones is good at making a profit, but horrible at putting together a team.

Let me give you an example. The Cowboys were suffering through a mini slump in the middle of the season. So in a panic Jones traded for Detroit Lions WR Roy Williams. Williams is a good player but you tell me was he worth:

A first-round pick in 2009, plus a third- and sixth-rounder that year for Williams and a seventh-round pick in '10.

The Cowboys and Williams agreed to a five-year extension worth $45 million, including more than $20 million guaranteed.

Williams's stats since coming to the Cowboys:

13 Catches 177 yards and 1 TD

In essence Jones traded away solid draft picks and guaranteed a whole lot of money to a player who in all honesty is not going to make a difference in the long term future of the Cowboys. It is these types of knee jerk decisions that have set the Cowboys back year after year. The ringmaster of this circus is Jerry Jones. You know what I think; I think Jerry Jones really wants to be the coach of the Cowboys.

Maybe he can also play running back with a dislocated toe or Quarterback with a broken finger. How can any player on the Cowboys respect the coaching staff when they know they are puppets for Jones?

When was the last time anyone heard from Dan Snyder the owner of the Washington Redskins? When Snyder came into the league he was a lot like Jones, but even he realized it is in the best interest of the team to let the coaches' coach and the players play.

If he doesn't be careful the Cowboys will end up like the Raiders unless:

"The Owner's goes down and he must go down hard"
