As Manny Pacquiao and Oscar de la Hoya put the finishing touches on their respective training camps in preparation for this Saturday's showdown, let's analyze some key elements of the fight.

1) Size: Some are saying that the size differential won't be much of a factor. They talk about Roy Jones vs. John Ruiz or Billy Conn vs. Joe Louis etc. But the majority of fighters who came into a bout with size disadvantages were outstanding boxers. Pacquiao is a fighter, someone who comes forward non-stop with all pistols firing. This plays right into De la Hoya's hands. Advantage De la Hoya.

2) Speed: Pacquiao has the speed advantage but does he have the power to hurt De la Hoya Oscar's fought Mosley, Hopkins, Julio Cesar-Chavez and so one. He's felt power and only Hopkins was able to knock him out. 35 yrs old or not, it's tough to envision Pacquiao being able to hurt De la Hoya. Advantage De la Hoya.

3) Stamina: De la Hoya tires as fights go into the later rounds and Pacquiao always seems to come on stronger the longer the fight goes. If Pacquiao can take the fight into later rounds, he may be able to pot shot De la Hoya, move in and out, and rack up points in the hopes of winning a decision. Advantage Pacquiao.

4) Cornermen: Freddie Roach trained De la Hoya so he should have inside information to be able to offer Pacquiao. He has seen up close Oscar's strengths and weaknesses and may be able to formulate an effective game plan to offset the things De la Hoya does well. On the other hand, Oscar's trainer, the infamous Nacho, trained Juan Manuel Marquez and came up with a fighting plan that came close to neutralizing Manny. Advantage Pacquiao.

5) Ring Generalship: De la Hoya is more experienced and has been in more big fights. He won't wilt under the spotlight. If history has shown us anything, it's that Oscar won't fight a smart fight. He decided to run from Trinidad during the championship rounds after giving Tito a boxing clinic up to that point. He didn't use the jab at all against Mayweather, knowing in advance that a strong, consistent jab is the one weapon that can frustrate PBF. I found it hilarious that De la Hoya blamed Freddie Roach for coming up with the wrong game plan against Mayweather. He told Oscar to jab between every round, but De la Hoya didn't listen. Oscar has proven that whatever the smart move is, he'll do the opposite. Advantage Pacquiao.

6) Offensive Firepower/Defensive Proficiency: Oscar has the straight right, the jab, and obviously a powerful left hook. He also defends well, as evidenced during the Mayweather fight when he easily blocked or slipped most of PBF's punches. Pacquiao has a strong straight left and in his last fight against David Diaz displayed a new weapon, the right hook. The height differential will probably nullify Manny's jab. Advantage De la Hoya.

7) Hunger: Manny had to steal cigarettes and traded these in the black market in order to eat. The Philippines is one of the most poverty stricken places in the world, and Pacquiao gets a daily reminder of what life would have been like if he wasn't blessed with the ability to throw hands. Believe me, Oscar doesn't have more heart, desire, or hunger than Manny. Advantage Pacquiao.

So there you have it folks, the point by point breakdown. So who's going to win? It's the old problem every gambler faces; do you bet with your heart or your brain? I want Manny to win, I would love to see him knock De la Hoya out in exciting fashion...it's tough to root against someone that made it out of the type of environment he grew up in. But the feel good story is going to end Dec 6th, and all of the Philippines will feel like I felt when the Patriots beat the Rams in the Super Bowl. The size is just going to be too much for Pacquiao to overcome. De la Hoya by late round knockout. This is JP Sutherland... signing off.
