Let me just say that I don't subscribe to all the destiny talk that has floated around about the Cards. I don't want to hear all the feel-good stories about Kurt Warner and how he bagged a million groceries during his humble years. I don't care about the "distraction" created by Anquan Boldin and Todd Haley. I don't care about that dishrag called The Terrible Towel regardless of its meaning. And my ears will start to bleed if I hear one more story about how great the Steelers defense is or anything about Big Ben. The only thing that matters to me is momentum and for that reason only, I am predicting that the Cardinals will finish shocking the world with an upset of the Pittsburgh Steelers in Super Bowl XLIII.
I'm not going to post a bunch of stats to justify my pick. Over the past few years, teams like the '05 Steelers and '06 Colts gained a tremendous amount of momentum that simply couldn't be stopped. Last year's Giants squad used their momentum to beat a supposedly unbeatable Patriots team seeking an undefeated season. Going into this year's playoffs, the Cardinals were regarded as the worst playoff team in history which I think is silly. Every team that qualifies for the playoffs is a contender no matter what the records say. There are no "easy" paths to the Super Bowl.
At the end of the day, it's all about which team is firing on all cyclinders at the right time. For some reason, this Cardinals team reminds me of the 2006 Colts who also pulled a couple of upsets on the way to the Super Bowl. The Cards have a dynamic offense with the best receiving corps in the game, but a defense that had been maligned all season until they stepped it up in the playoffs by forcing turnovers and hustling to the ball.
But the ultimate reason why I believe the Cardinals will the Super Bowl is because they are finally ready to exorcise their past demons including one of the greatest rants of all time:
Are you serious? We are going to pound the Cardinals. You need to listen to your boss
Don't get bent out of shape over my pick. As a life-long Chiefs fan, I've got my own problems lol.
In all seriousness, I'll be happy for coach Mike Tomlin for winning a Super Bowl in just his second year while it took The Chin over a decade to win one.
