First, I know baseball may be at least the 5th most important sport this time of year, but I just want to say congrats to Ricky Henderson and Jim Rice for being elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame. That being said, I've got to complain about how the writers act like jilted women when it comes to some ball players and their induction. How Ricky doesn't get 100% of the vote is confusing at best. True, no other legend such as Hank Aaron or Willie Mays got 100%, but times have changed. And for a man to have to wait 15 years just because he was mean to the media...come on! Ty Cobb was mean and dropped N-bombs like they were thank you's....no arguments about him being in the hall.
I'm going to bump for a guy from my hometown that should get his due, despite his legendary relations with said media. See picture below.
True, I'm a bit biased but Albert Belle should be in the Hall hands down. From about 1993 to 1998, he was "dat dude", not Barry, not Sammy, but Albert Belle. Led league in RBI's 3 of those 5 seasons. First to cross the 8 figure mark in salary, 50 HR & 50 doubles in the same season. These are just a few of his stats. Granted, he didn't talk with the media most of the time and he has done a few things that were off base (see the Halloween SUV and Hannah Storm incidents for reference) but he should be in.
The media dislikes him so much, that he is now no longer listed on the ballot. I hate to speak ill of the deceased but Kirby Puckett's in the hall, why not Albert (I won't speak of Kirby's deeds in this posting). I'm done complaining about the baseball media, now back to whatever else is of importance in the world (like a Super Bowl with a 7 loss team).
What about me?
Now Mark as soon as you can admit that you were a juicer when you broke the single season HR record, they might think about putting you on the ballot as more than a write in.
