Just reading the sports news today, and I see the San Francisco 49ers interviewed Baltimore Ravens quarterbacks coach Hue Jackson Friday morning for their open offensive coordinator position. You would think that's not a big deal, until you start connecting dots, and there are plenty.

Thank NFL Network's Adam Schefter for helping to connect the dots here, but I will run them down:
1. 49ers interview Hue Jackson, who has Bay Area ties, but also used to coach Vick in Atlanta.
2. 49ers sign former Falcon DB Jimmy Williams, who was Vick's college teammate at Virginia Tech and lives one town over from where Vick has a house.
3. 49ers bring in Dan Reeves to interview for the open offensive coordinator position. Remember, Reeves traded Atlanta's number 2 pick for San Diego's number 1 pick and the opportunity to draft Vick.
4. 49ers express interest in former Falcons wide receivers coach Mike Johnson, who knows Vick well.
Vick isn't to be released from prison until July, but the 49ers seem to have all the angles down to get him once he is free. Of course, that will mean he will also be very close to a PETA office to torment them.

I don't have a racist bone in my body. I try to get along with everyone regardless of race. What I'm coming to find is that racism still exists because black people will not stop bringing race into everything. I work at a company that is more than fifty percent black and I look at my co-workers as people regardless of race. But I am constantly called "white boy" and constantly hear the phrase "...it's because you're white". Could you imagine how fast I'd be fired if I called one of my co-workers "black boy". We need to move past racism and stop the classifications of white and black, we're ALL people!!

The reason the site is called blacksportsonline is because it is "black" owned and operator as an example to young african-american writers and journalist that they can do something themselves.

No I like my job. That was just an example of one way that I experience racism. Obviously you are delusional because there are both black and white people on espn. A majority of the NFL analysts are black. What have you been watching? I just think that the dividing of the races needs to end. As a lifelong 49ers fan i have to say that signing Vick would be a completely stupid move and Im afraid i would have to start rooting for the Chargers instead. I am part of that less that 1% minority of football heads that never thought Micheal Vick was all he was hyped up to be. I never beleived he would lead the Falcons to glory in Atlanta. He is a great athelete but he has no idea how to play the position of quarterback. Someone long ago in Vick's early childhood days made the mistake of allowing Vick to step in at qb instead of playing reciever or safety as he is better suited for. He may have had a highlight reel career in college but someone needed to tell him that he cant outrun everybody in the pros. Vick is over-hyped as a qb and he has no place wearing a 49er uniform!

Im a black man and I do agree with one thing that BOB said and that is we have to stop calling one another "N". There is no place for it anymore. I love and respect each and every person that loves and respects me back. I am observing the comments that people are leaving for BOB and I really think Bob may be true to what he believes, but he just doesnt understand. So what? How many other majority-white countries have elected presidents "of color"? How many majority-black, majority-hispanic, or majority-asian countries have elected a white president? Blacks are only about 10% of the population and that number is quickly being surpassed by hispanics. If whites were as race-centric as blacks (voting 95% with their race), this country would NEVER have a black president.
I understand Bob's sentiment, although I don't think he justified it very well. I got linked to an article on this site from Deadspin and I was disappointed by both the name and quality of the site. Why name it "Black Sports Online"? Why not "Littal Sports" or "Robert's Sports World"? Why not come up with a creative or unique name?
All I get out of the name is that, as a white person, this site is "not for me". Just like a black man in the 30s would be offended by a "white" water fountain, even if there was a "colored" fountain nearby. There are hundreds of black sportswriters whose work I enjoy reading, and they don't seem to feel a need to segregate themselves from the other writers.
Maybe there are still areas where blacks do need to segregate themselves in order to have opportunities, but not in sports and sports reporting.
This story got elevated to another level. I think the author did a great job connecting the dots. Does Michael Vick deserve another chance in football? Absolutely. I think like the people who have commented in the affirmative that San Francisco would be a great fit.
I think the name of this site speaks to a great many things. From what I can tell, it is extremely inclusive and allow people to speak their truth. I was attracted to the site because of its monker: sports reporting just got interesting. Mainstream sports reporting is boring and predictable, and thanks to Stuart Scott on ESPN, there are White men who try to sound and speak what they think is Black in their reporting. I find this insulting.
All people, and all cultures have their own favor. Blacksportsonline favor spices things up and keep it real. I said to Bob come and join the party. Just know if you say something inappropriate, you will get checked like everybody else. Thus far, I have only heard your complaints. Getting back to the subject at hand, I'm willing to wait and see what happens with Vick. No one knows if Roger Goodell will even allow him back into the league anytime soon if ever. Until there is strong evidence to the contrary, the rumors of Vick to the 49ers mean little right now. If it does happen, I honestly believe that Singletary is the one coach who could make Vick better as a man and as a player.
