Two weeks ago, you may remember Detroit News reporter Rob Parker asking the then-Lions head coach Rod Marinelli whether he wished his daughter had married a better defensive coordinator (The 2008 Lion defensive coordinator is Joe Barry, Marinelli's son-in-law). This wasn't the first stunt Parker pulled, but it may just be his last...at least, as a reporter for the Detroit News.

Marinelli took the comments from Parker as a personal affront. Finally, the paper struck back. In today's Detroit Free Press,
Detroit News sports columnist Rob Parker has left the paper, two weeks after he was criticized for asking Lions coach Rod Marinelli if he had wished his daughter had married a better defensive coordinator.
Managing editor Don Nauss said Parker resigned last week.
Parker declined to comment Tuesday, other than to say "I love Detroit, and I don't plan on leaving."
Stupidity shouldn't be celebrated. We've had enough of that in the White House for the last eight years. It may have taken a couple weeks, but at least the News won't be sued or sanctioned for ridding the world of a jerk (OK, they didn't kill him, but we won't have to read him anymore...).
Some may remember Parker for claiming a couple years ago a Michigan State backup quarterback was involved in a brawl, and offered a vague apology when it was found he was flat out incorrect. Others may remember he called Hank Aaron (yes, THAT Hank Aaron) a coward.
There are positions Parker still claims locally. Let's hope no more come in his direction.
