Before we get to what everyone else will be talking about tomorrow I will tell you the play that really won the game that everyone will forget. I make no secret that I don't like a lot of the mainstream sports writers, but one that I love is Gregg Easterbrook of ESPN and hisTuesday Morning Quarterback. One of the things Mr. Easterbrook preaches is that when you get for it on 4th and 1 you show your team that you have confidence in them and also the chances of success are much higher that you win the game.
The Titans were down 10-7 but had been moving the ball easily all day. Only their own turnovers and penalties had been slowing them down (more on that later). The Titans once again drove into Ravens territory in the 4th quarter and faced a 4th and 1. Dan Dierdorf who is absolutely is one of the worst color commentators in the NFL barked out that the only decision was to bring out the field goal team which is exactly what Jeff Fisher did. In the immortal words of Mr. Easterbrook I wrote in my notebook:
The Titans who blew chance after chance had an opportunity to win the game but decided to play it safe but the playoffs aren't for punks they are for risk takers. By playing safe they doomed themselves for failure. Get the yard, punch in the TD and break the spirits of the Ravens. What happened was the Ravens were energized by dodging another bullet and went on to win the game. The lesson here:
IF YOU SCARED GO TO CHURCH
With that being said the refs did help out the Ravens with a horrible blown call which should have been a delay of game penalty and turned into a critical completion from Joe Flacco to Todd Heap.
Beyond that the Titans should know that you can not expect to win a playoff game when you commit three turnovers in the red zone. You can not expect to win a playoff game with the amount of penalties they had. You just can't.
One last thing on the Titans. Chris Johnson did a lot of talking about how he should have been rookie of the year among other things. If I don't hear tomorrow that his ankle is broken that he is officially soft. Baltimore Ravens running back LaRon McLain hurt his ankle pretty bad and he was out there gutting it out. Johnson sat on the sidelines with a cape on. We get on LT and others for not playing in big games with nagging injuries. Johnson should be held accountable as well.
The Ravens played mistake free football again and the Titans should be ashamed to look at themselves in the mirror tonight.

It was like 2000 all over
I sat in the cheap seats in the cold rain for this game and I have never left a stadium with so much disgust for the home team. The Titans played like they hadn't practiced in weeks with 12 turnovers and 3 turnovers. He had "good" numbers, but Kerry Collins didn't make big plays. Say what you want about Chris Johnson, but he was the only reason why the Titans even had a chance in the first half. I think they wanted to rest him for next week because the team assumed they would find a way to win. Bottom line is that Jeff Fisher did not have this team ready for serious playoff football. A complete waste of the season for the Titans and the Ravens will win the Lombardi trophy.
Man I watched this whole game and you broke it all the way down without going into deep detail. Your recap game is on point Rob.
I watched that game from the best seat you can possibly have; the warmth and comfort of my living room. But anyways that blown delay of game penalty can't be the sole reason why the Titans lost. I agree with Frank and Robert but on different things here. First i agree with Robert that the Titans were not playing to win. Why let the other team have more chances just because its 4th and short? This is the win-or-go-home playoffs man! THE PLAYOFFS! And who is Chris Johnson to cry about not getting the NFL R.O.Y. but then he sits out half the game because he hurt his ankle? Wheres the toughness Chris? True warriors play hurt; this is life in the NFL, take it or leave it. I agree with Frank regarding the Titans turnovers and Jeff Fisher's lack of leadership. First of all the Titans should already know that objective #1 is to protect the ball. True you must take risks but they must be calculated risks. An unacceptable risk is watching f--ing Lendale White fumble because he was basically carrying the ball on his hip while running against the best linbacker corps in the league! I hope the Titans running back coach bit his ear off for that one. I remember back when coach Phil Jackson used to fine his players for making stupid mistakes in the game like not hustling back on defense. Perhaps the same approach would work for football players? I dont think the Ravens will move on to get the Lombardi Trophy but I do think that Titans shot themselves in the foot once again.
No one is talking about that 4th down or Johnson which is why I come to BSO cause I know they will find something outside of the obvious.
I don't know how hurt Johnson was but he didn't seem that hurt sipping hot chocolate. Lendale White is an average back.
I think you are thinking like sukrat, but I think you should cover the other side of the topic in the post too...
Yeah, the Titans didn't lose the game simply on that penalty, but THEY WERE STILL IN IT and you can't say that call didn't have an effect on the outcome of the game. I'm sick and tired of games being decided even partially on plays where the referees blow it. We'll never know what would've happened but these are supposed to be professionals. It reeks way too much of team bias when this happens week in and out with today's NFL. The Stealers superbowl was a joke. Expect more of the same. People should be pissed that such an obvious call bailed another team out who probably didn't need it, but yet again, the refs leave a sour taste in my mouth because they can't get it right. Stop making excuses for the refs. No one is making excuses for the Titans.
I am amazed with it. It is a good thing for my research. Thanks

'Never put off until tomorrow what you can do today.' Under the influence of this pestilent morality, I am forever letting tomorrow's work slop backwards into today's, and doing painfully and nervously today what I could do quickly and easily tomorrow.
The trouble with our times is that the future is not what it used to be.
