When Mike Shanahan was fired from the Broncos after a very successful 14-year stint as head coach, a long list of candidates to replace him came up.
Jason Garrett. Eric Mangini (even though he went to Cleveland almost immediately).
That list got even longer by one name. The difference? The last person put himself on the list.
More after the jump...
Romanowski sent Broncos owner Pat Bowlen a lengthy Power Point presentation depicting his strengths and outlining the freshness he'd bring to the team. From the Associated Press' Pat Graham,
"I can't stop thinking about this," said Romanowski, who played for San Francisco, Philadelphia, Denver and Oakland during a standout 16-year career in the NFL that was marred by a bad temper and his admitted use of THG, the designer steroid at the center of the BALCO scandal.
"This may be a complete fantasy and that's all right ... At the end of the day, nothing may happen from it."
"For Pat to do something like this, it would take him being a visionary, thinking outside the box," said Romanowski, whose coaching experience includes helping with his son's football team. "Him hiring me, it's a long shot. I understand that. I know that."
Romo wants Bowlen to call him, because he believes he'll win him over.
That will be good for Bowlen to do it by phone. Remember, Romanowski spit on JJ Stokes during a Monday Night game against San Francisco in 1997.
Of course, Romo is also the CEO and president of a nutritional company called Nutrition53 (his jersey number), and wants to make protein shakes for the players. Guess what's in those?
Well, actually...that may not be a bad thing for the defense.
