By now, we have all read, seen or heard the Utah Utes football team beat Alabama in the Sugar Bowl and finished the season undefeated. What we may not have understood in all that is the Utes have now finished the season undefeated twice in the last five years, and were still shut out of the BCS Championship.
Didn't take someone in the state long to finally call out the BCS...Utah Attorney General Mark Shurtleff.

According to the Associated Press:
"Attorney General Mark Shurtleff contends the BCS unfairly puts schools like Utah, which is a member of a conference without an automatic bid to the lucrative bowl games, at a competitive and financial disadvantage.
"We've established that from the very first day, from the very first kickoff in the college season, more than half of the schools are put on an unlevel playing field," Shurtleff said Tuesday. "They will never be allowed to play for a national championship."
BCS administrator Bill Hancock said he couldn't comment on the investigation until he had seen something in writing from the Utah attorney general's office."
Shurtleff says he would like to see a college playoff system, but will simply accept change. His people are also beginning to look at the Sherman Antitrust Act to see if a lawsuit can be filed. Of course, to win, he would have to prove a monopoly exists.
So, here's what Shurtleff is saying: the Utes keep landing on either Park Place or Boardwalk, and the BCS has hotels all over that b****!

What's funny to me is why are some ppl saying that Utah should be the number one team, when they didn't even beat the # 1 or # 2 team. Now, I still believe they should have a playoff and I do believe Utah deserves to be one of those teams involved.

TJ...no, I don't believe they can beat most Top 20 teams from your BCS conference, but they were the better team on that day. I also believe Shurtleff is going about changing the system the wrong way, but that's another post for another day.
The very problem is that it's all based on opinion. Our only basis for saying Utah can't beat USC or Texas or Florida is that we looked at all of them (and in the case of some poll voters, looked at doesn't even mean you watched an actual game) and don't think that they can. In every other sport, the undefeated team that supposedly isn't as good as some others gets it's day to prove just how good it really is. We have grounds to deny Utah other than what we think they look lke, and most of us haven't even Utah one freaking game of theirs all season long. We're just regurgitating what we hear from Lee Corso and Herstreit every Saturday. If the AG can prove collusion, go for it.
I am a true Utes fan. The only argument I have is if the BCS wasn't crooked, they would have changed it themselves by now. Maybe even say, last year, when everybody was wondering if Utah could beat Florida (I personally think they would have, this was the best Utes team I ever seen). They didn't even think about changing things around just a little to let the two teams play at the end of the year, after the bowls. Both coaches thought they could win and it would have attracted even more money to whoever runs the BCS (money seems to be the only thing that motivates them anyways). Then, when the Utes won or lost, a National Champion could have then been crowned without controversy or even possible legal ramifications.
