TOM-BRADY-PIC-1.jpgWith the new rules being introduced by the 'No Fun League', it got me to thinking; are the NFL and NBA higher ups turning them into The League of Extraordinary Cup Cakes? Growing up as a Bad Boy and 49ers fan, I enjoyed seeing a safety crush a wideout. Is it only me and Rasheed Wallace that think that there is now more contact in the WNBA than the NBA?

With the way the rules are now, would the Bad Boys ever have been two-time champions? I love Tony Parker's game, but sometimes it turns my stomach to see how teams continuously let him get to the rack for uncontested lay-ups. Could somebody please enforce the paint! Then again, if somebody trips and accidentally brushes up against a player, it's a flagrant foul. What ever happened to no blood no foul?
With no hand checking, defensive 3 sec. and the arc in the paint, Jordan would have easily averaged 40 points a game.

It seems as if Mr. Stern is trying to tinker with the rules in order to make a more exciting and appealing brand of basketball. I'm from the school of thought: if it ain't broke don't fix it. All I want is my brand of the NBA where Parrish punches Laimbeer and doesn't even get called for a foul.


Now to the NFL. I remember Ronnie Lott's total disregard for his own body. The man had his finger amputated, so in his hits you could tell what he thought about his opponent. I don't understand why you would want to take that type of passion away from a player.

The "Brady Rule" says a defensive player on the ground may no longer lunge or dive at a quarterback's lower legs. So what should he do while he's down there, throw dirt at him?

I know the rules are there to protect the players. But it's a violent sport and that's why people watch it. That's why the big hits make the top ten on sports center. That's why they sell Moment of Impact and NFL Hits DVD's. As a youngster, you lace them up so you can lay the wood on somebody each and every week. Players know the risk every time they step on the field. So to take the aggressiveness away from the players, is cheating the game. My Granddaddy use to say sometimes you have to call a spade a spade, so either call it the National Flag Football League or let them hit.

An injury like what happened to Brady last season is always bad but if I remember right wasn't Pollard coming in on a blitz and fell into his knee? Not much he could have done about that. The league is about contact and pain. If you don't want to get hit and risk injury then why even put on the pads? The second you step on the field those players know they are risking their careers and more (TE from the Bills). That's what these guys are paid for though. They train for it and live for it. $hit happens sometimes. Deal with it or don't step on the field.
