Last week it was reported that the Denver Broncos had attempted to trade away "franchise" QB Jay Cutler. A supposed three way trade that would send Cutler to Tampa and land Matt Cassel in Denver never materialized as Cassel eventually ended up in Kansas City. Despite all the denials from the Broncos and head coach Josh McDaniels, it's obvious that something was in the works. And now that the cat's out of the bag, there's now trouble between the coach and his best player.

I'm not surprised by any of this because coaches and front office people always want their own guys when starting with new teams. As the former offensive coordinator for the Patriots, it's no surprise that he wanted his QB from last season as well. Except for one small thing: Jay Cutler is a better QB than Cassel. Cutler has command of his team and knows his players. Why would McDaniels bring in an outsider just because he was a (former) Patriot?

I'll also say this. The "Patriot Way" has really only worked in one place...New England. Romeo Crennel was a complete bust in Cleveland. Charlie Weis has been a disaster at Notre Dame once Tyrone Willingham's players left the program and only his astronomical contract buyout has kept him in place this long. Nick Saban couldn't handle the pressure in Miami and scurried back to college where he belongs. No matter where you look, it's obvious that once coaches leave the Bill Belichick bubble to coach their own teams, they are doomed to fail sooner rather than later. Starting his coaching tenure by alienating his starting QB ensures that McDaniels will probably fail as well.

This was how I initially felt about them trying to trade Cutler.....

Then I heard the reports that after the QB coach left Denver for USC, Cutler was requesting to be traded. So in all reality McDaniels is in the right here, if ou can get rid of a player you don't know and doesn't want to be around, and pick up a player you know and is a quality player, I figure you'd be dumb not to look into it.

Also not sure if you heard, but Brandon Marshall may get suspended because of a disorderly conduct arrest. I've yet to hear all of the facts on that case tho, I'm hoping that he'll be fine, it may just be a municipal charge instead of a criminal one tho.

I agree why would he try to trade Jay I don't care if he wanted to go or not. Our offence is great the defence needs work witch they have done. If jay goes thàt would be the biggest mistake I've ever seen and Josh just got here.

All drama, rumors and media hype aside, i just cant help but get the feeling that this trade will come back to bite Denver in the butt. I get the feeling Cutler has the ability to succeed just about anywhere and that Cassel is not going to make Broncs fans stop wishing for the Elway days to come back.
