I knew it was too good to be true. After Quinton "Rampage" Jackson's victory this past saturday, I must admit, I was excited about the showdown between him and current light heavyweight champ Rashad Evans. No Rampage isn't pulling a Mayweather, but instead, injuries have forced the match to be postponed until a later date.
Rampage learned earlier this week that he has a hyper-extended elbow and torn ligaments in his jaw that will force him to be out for five weeks. UFC owner Dana White has substituted Lyoto Machida into Jackson's slot, who is currently 14-0.That sets up a match of two undefeated light heavyweight monsters for UFC 98. If Evans proceeds to win to the fight, it will then be Jackson's title shot as early as UFC 100.
If the UFC is smart, they would capitalize correctly on the fact that two of the companies biggest African-American stars, are main event caliber. They could really peak interest for those who really dont follow MMA religiously.
