Why Do Athletes Pay For Sex? Let Me Count The Ways

An athlete worse fear is to be caught up in a Kobe-like situation. When you are an athlete or entertainer (or BonaFide Sports Expert, ok not so much) you are a target of many women. Some want money, some want fame, some want attention, some want the lifestyle and some just want to say they slept with a baller.

The one thing that you have to watch out for is the "emotional" one. If you are sleeping with numerous women eventually you will run across a crazy one. Here is the situation as it plays out:

Athlete sees pretty shy girl at the club. He is extremely nice to the young lady. He floods her with compliments to make her feel super special to the point that he gets her to his hotel room. She is overwhelmed by the fact this superstar is paying her so much attention that she willing gives it up.

Literally thirteen seconds after it is over the athlete is asking her to leave while on the phone with his wife asking how the kids are doing. Humiliated by being used the "emotional" one can react many ways ranging from just acting like it didn't happen, to whining about it to their girlfriend, to posting anonymously on Lipstickalley.com about their horrible encounter, to stalking, to finding out who the athletes wife is and exposing them, to writing a tell all book or in Kobe's case calling the police.

So while it is nice to have women at your beck and call 24/7, athletes are playing a dangerous game of cat and mouse game where if they crap out their reputation will be ruined.

2- This isn't new they have been paying.

Don't be naïve almost every athlete in the world has anywhere between 7 to 70 "kept" women at their disposal at anytime. What I mean by "kept" is they are women who the athlete has been taking care of financially for years who aren't their wives or girlfriends. Cars, houses, college expenses, clothes, jewels or anything else you can think of. Let me tell you a story (names, locations and teams have been changed to protect the guilty, but if you are smart enough you might figure it out):

I have a very good female friend who stays in NYC who is a "kept" woman of a NBA player on the New Orleans Hornets. A few months back I was talking to her about how I needed some new games for my Xbox360, but have been too busy to go out and get them.

About two weeks later I get a package from my female friend with a bunch of games (including NBA2K9 how ironic). So I call her and was like what is up with this and she calmly told me:

"I told him my son wanted some new games so he sent them and I sent them to you."

This is a smart college educated female with a decent job and I asked her why does she do it and her reply was:

"If someone was offering you free things for sex every couple of months wouldn't you do it?"

Hard to argue with that logic, but I digress. The point is this has been going on for years way before you heard about ARod wining and dining call girls.

3- It is easier.

#1 and #2 leads into to the main reason it is just simpler to do. I have a regular job and I make at least $15 a month off BSO so considering the recession we are in I am doing pretty well. With that being said if I gave $1000 to an escort my lights would be shut off, rent wouldn't be paid and those repo people from TruTV would be banging down my door. So I have no choice but to be Don Juan Demarco in my pursuit of female companionship, but if I was Stephon Marbury and making twenty million dollars in 2009 to sit on the Celtics bench here are my options.

I can go to a club possibly get shot or robbed, pick up a female who I don't know and could very well be crazy, get me a "kept" woman but have to pay her mortgage for the next twenty years or I can make a quick call to Lady Lolita and specify what type female you want (thick Asian mixed with a little Filipino..wait we are talking about the athletes not me) and after the hour never hear from them again.

$1000 to them is like a $1 for us and to clearly illustrate what that means if the majority of the fellas could buy call girls for $1 we would never leave the house.
People like to get on their moral high horse and say how wrong this is when people are paying sex on a daily basis (you not taking her to dinner for her conversation). So don't be surprised.
