Have you ever wondered how some athletes are able to propel themselves beyond their peers? Somehow, they rise above the rest. Do you ever wonder how these athletes are capable of performing at high levels of intensity on a consistent basis? They become mythical figures with great poise, determination, and skill.


Carrying the Torch

Larry Fitzgerald is one of the most prolific wide receivers in the NFL. I have often wondered where does he get the determination exemplified on the football field? Where does it come from?

During Easter weekend, I attended two fundraising events honoring the legacy of Carol Fitzgerald. Mrs. Fitzgerald was a prominent community advocate and healthcare provider in the Minneapolis area. Unfortunately, she lost her life to breast cancer on April 10, 2003. The foundation was established by the Fitzgerald family to continue her mission and purpose.

When I saw the photographs of Carol, I immediately saw Larry Jr. They are what we call a "splitting image" of one another. As I learned more about this wonderful woman and person, I continued to ask myself one question...is Carol flying down on the football field and entering into Larry's body? Do you remember the movie "GHOST"?


So, I can't help but to think she is passing the torch to Larry Jr. Carol's light will continue to shine on much larger platform, not just one city, but a nation.


To Larry Fitzgerald Jr:

The torch has been passed onto you. Please remember... A mother's love is unconditional and mothers always know best.
