I was getting my twitter on with Shaq (seriously if you aren't following me now you are missing out http://www.twitter.com/BlkSportsOnline)when I got the breaking news that Plaxico Burress was released by the New York Giants.
Before I get to my thoughts our good friend Mike Florio at ProFootBallTalk.com has some good information on what led up to Plaxico being released. It appears that the Giants offered Burress a new contract that would have kept him with the team in 2009 and resolved their grievance over bonus money. Burress balked at the deal.
Secondly Mike points out that there is a probably plea deal on the table for Plax, but he is balking at doing any time in jail and is considering taking it to trial.
A couple things are going on here. First off if you didn't know that Plaxico was a bona fide idiot you know now.
We don't know exactly what the Giants offered him in the new contract so I can understand that if it was a bad deal he was balking at that, but he really needs to come to the understanding about this gun charge case.
This is an open and shut case. It was his gun, it was unlicensed and he shot himself. Case over guilty as charge see you in 3.5 years when no one and THE ROCK MEANS NO ONE (sorry I get carried away with the Rock catchphrases from time to time) will touch him with a ten foot pole and his football career is over.
Man up take the plea deal spend 30-60 days in jail and come back better than ever, stop being an idiot and stop thinking you are above the law.
As far as the Giants I think they have something up their sleeve. Be it a trade for Braylon Edwards or Anquan Boldin or something else I don't think they will just stand pat.
My spider sense tells me they have had a contingency plan in place for awhile. If I had to put my money on I think Braylon Edwards is a Giant before the start of the draft.
Because regardless of what an idiot Plax is the Giants were a much different team without him and for them to succeed they need an impact wide receiver and they don't have one on the roster now.
Interesting to see how it all plays out in the weeks and months to come.
