What I learned from last night's Game

Let me state the facts about myself. I have been a North Carolina Tarheels fan all my life. A die-hard one at that. As a matter of fact, its in my DNA. My dad's side of the family resides in North Carolina and have been fans forever as well. That's just our legacy.

As a true fan, I have been one of their biggest critics. When they broke down that Carolina has only won 4 championships before last nights game, all I could do is think about the ones we could've had. If you think about it, Rasheed Wallace and Jerry Stackhouse didn't win championships because they left early. Antwan Jamison and Vince Carer didn't win championships because they left early. Truth be told, The 2005 Championship team could have repeated if a few of those guys stayed. Guys all have their reasons to go pro whether it be ego or financial need with Carolina. But with each mass exodus of talent, you can guarantee that what they inherit will be championship caliber, eventually.

So what did I learn from last night?

THE GUYS WHO CUT THE NETS LAST NIGHT WILL PRODUCE THE BEST CROP OF PROS CAROLINA HAS SEEN

*Disclaimer: Besides MJ and James Worthy

That may be hard to consider, if you think about their alumni. But feel me on this. Ty Lawson is a better Point Guard than those who have played before him. He is a better finisher and floor general then names like Cota and Felton. If you consider that he more than likely will be a lottery pick, he will excel due to the teams that will be in the lottery. A lot of them are stocked with young talent and adding Lawson to the mix will definitely get someone OUT of the lottery 2010.

Players like Danny Green and Wayne Ellington are pure basketball players. Carolina has produced a plethora of dunkers and athletes, but if you strip that away, you have Danny Green and Wayne Ellington. They put me in the mind of people like Richard Hamilton, who wont wow you with highlights, but can play ball. They are in the same vein as Carolina alum Antwan Jamison, who is one of the most underrated players in the League. Danny and Wanye wont get the big endorsements or have their own days on NBA TV, but they will be awesome pros.

And that leads me to Tyler Hansborough. I dont care what anyone says, but Hansborough will be a great pro. It trips me out how people are quick to crown some of the more spectacular players coming out with tremendous upside, and blah blah blah. Tyler worked hard his four years, something that is rarely seen in today's college basketball era. He has the work ethic and determination to succeed. He may not be a 20, 10 guy, but thats fine with Tyler. You can not discredit the guy for having heart and being who he is. To label him as Christian Laettner is defamation of character. Tyler Hansborough is not a franchise player, and thats fine with him. He gets the job done. I hate "draft experts" who clown players for staying an extra year. Tyler wanted a championship, period. But its the players who make "pit-stops" at college who get all the credit and dont work nearly as hard who get the shine. He isnt a finesse player. He is one of the goofiest players to come out in a long http://blacksportsonline.com/cgi-bin/mt/mt.cgi?__mode=view&_type=entry&blog_id=1time. Tyler is one of those people who walks in the gym and would be one of the last picked. But he is a player. If his "draft stock" is sliding as much as people say it is, that means that he will be a late first round selection. Which means that he will likely go to a contender. If I'm Tyler, I like my chances. His tenacity and determination to get it done will make him a steal.

The last thing that I learned about last night is that Carolina should be preseason favorites to repeat. Freshman Ed Davis made some noise last night, Zeller will be back, Ginyard will be healthy and let's not forget the recruiting class coming in. Roy Williams woke up this morning with a grin because he knows that the organism that is Carolina Tarheel basketball will continue to breed greatness and quality.

*May be biased, but so what? I'm a proud fan today.
