Money Mayweather is Back..But Roger Mayweather Steals The Show

Before you read about Floyd Mayweather's return I implore you to watch this video of Roger Mayweather from the Press Conference. His take on "Trainer of the Year" was by far the funniest moment of my media experience in Vegas:

Money is back.

The worse kept secret in boxing was that Floyd Mayweather Jr. was coming out of retirement. He made it official in an early Saturday morning press conference at the MGM Grand. In true Mayweather form he showed up at the press conference "straight from the strip club".

Beyond the coming out of retirement announcement it was also announce that Mayweather will be fighting Juan Manuel Marquez on July 18th in the MGM Grand.

I have to admit I have to question Mayweather taking such a tough fight after a long layoff. A lot of people think that Marquez will be an easy victory for Floyd, but I definitely don't see it that way. Marquez is the only fighter in the world who seems to give Manny Pacquiao trouble and considering how Pacquiao is destroying his opponents maybe we should start giving more credit for the two fights that Marquez fought against Pacquiao.

Two fights that a lot of people thought he won (I scored the 2nd bout for Marquez).

Anyone who thinks this will be a walk in the park for Mayweather is sorely mistaken in my opinion.

I even asked Mayweather why he didn't take an easier fight to come back with and his response was short and to the point:

"Money only fights the best."

Money May made a point of saying that he is still the "Pound for Pound" King and that you can't lose a throne without someone taking it. It was a subtle shot and the reigning "Pound for Pound" King Manny Pacquiao. In theory I agree with Mayweather, but the fact is while he has been out "Making it Rain" the Pacman has been knocking people out and deserves that title.

Also if you take into consideration their two common opponents Oscar De La Hoya & Ricky Hatton one could argue there is no question who is the Pound for Pound best.

Mayweather won a convincing if not boring fight against De La Hoya and then outclassed Ricky Hatton before knocking him out in the 10th round. Pacquiao on the other hand embarrassed De La Hoya so bad he retired and the beating he laid to Ricky Hatton will be talked about not just for weeks, or months, but for years to come.

All anyone wanted to talk about after the Hatton/Pacquiaovfight was who would win if a Pacquiao vs. Mayweather match up was made. That is the fight the world wants to see.

I am going on record and saying if that fight happens and it is a big "if" it will be the biggest PPV fight of all time.

The reason I say it is a big "if" is because I am not convince yet that Floyd can beat Marquez. If it was prime Mayweather then I don't think it would have been a problem, but after this long layoff and the fact that Mayweather is now 32 years old you have to wonder when that slip is going to happen.

For speed and defensive fighters like Floyd once it goes it goes (ask Roy Jones Jr).

When you are naturally as gifted as Floyd you win fights just because you are physically better. Any slippage even if it is just small could be the difference between being undefeated and being knocked out. That is why I am extremely excited about the Marquez/Mayweather fight to see if he is still the Floyd Mayweather of old or is Floyd Mayweather just getting old.

Why is Floyd dressed like an inmate in Cell Blocked D

Man,you aint asked Mayweather nothin.

Good look

why are all the BSO haters anonymous. punks

mayweather is old? lol he's 32 for godsake. benard hopkins was 43 and still punishing people 32 is not old at all

Mayweather's weight also hasn't fluctuated like Roy Jones's did during comparable times in their careers. If Floyd can stay focused amidst his internal storm then he can go through Marquez, Pacquiao, Mosley, Cotto, Williams, etc. no problem. He has at least 5 good years left. Look at Shane Mosley. ;o).
