It just depends on what his long term goal is. If he wants to make an attempt at getting back in the NFL he needs to steer clear of any gambling. Suck it up and do the rest of his time until RG lets him ride the pines somewhere for some real money.
But if he thinks he's never going to get back in the league, 250k would get him back on his feet. But it's going to be a windfall gain, he'll eat through that money faster than Rosie O'Donnell at a pork themed breakfast buffet.
