Very similar to what I said about JR Smith young athletes especially young black athletes have to be more aware.
I don't have a bad word to say about Derrick Rose. All of the people I have talk to about him says he is a nice guy. It is a shame that his reputation will take a beating over this.
It is his fault though. He was old enough at the time to realize he was going to be a big time ball player. If you are going to be in the spotlight you have to understand the light will shine bright.
You see the other guy posing in the picture? Do you care about him? Do you know what his name is? Of course not because he isn't in the spotlight, but Rose is and he has to know that before the camera flashes.
Is it too much to ask such young players to think before every move they make? It is probably unfair to expect that out of a 19 or 20 year old. Unfortunately life isn't fair.
Once again it might not matter to Derrick Rose how he is perceived, but he is perpetuating a stereotype that young black men in this country are fighting every day.
That we are thugs and gangbangers.
When will these athletes learn they aren't just hurting themselves that they are hurting all of us with their actions?

We are no different from the fraternities in college.... Society display us as gang members cause of our past endeavours... i think everyone can relate to being young and taking dumb pictures in college. everyone gets crazy and a bit stupid durring their freshmen year and he's no different. it was a mistake and he was young- and still is young. and the picture is obviously old because Rose doesn't have either of his hands tattooed.
but all the same i agree that when your in the public eye, you should watch what your doing. Especially if it's pushing a streotype that a mojority of african americans are trying to get away from.

That image is really media created, through movies, music, books, talk shows, the news, and etc... The media will continue to perpetuate it whether Derrick Rose throws up pitch fork or every young black celebrity becomes MENSA members and debate the merits of various theories in quantum physics.
