NBA Finals Game 3 Recap: A Kobe Perspective

kobeperspective.jpg

Game 3 of the NBA Finals gives me an opportunity to go in detail about a phrase I use a lot, but never explained the true meaning of. It is called:

"KOBE PERSPECTIVE"

Kobe Bryant is one of the two most polarizing figures in sports (the other is Terrell Owens). There is absolutely no middle ground with people (media and fans) when it comes to Bean. Either there is extreme hate or extreme love.

Here is an example of what I mean. Last night while I was Twittering (http://www.twitter.com/BlkSportsOnline)I made this comment:

"I am only hard on Kobe because he is so great. But in the 2nd half he did not play well."

Pretty mundane statement consistent with what I was saying throughout the 2nd half (more on that later). I received ten replies to that statement five saying I was hater and five saying I was a Kobe lover. You are starting to understand what I am saying.

I honestly believe I am the only person in the country who has "Kobe Perspective".

Meaning I can separate through all the personal, professional, on court & off court BS and speak the truth with an unbiased opinion.

I can look someone in the eye and say the following statement about Kobe Bryant:

He has always been an outstanding player, not always a good teammate, but probably not as bad as it was made out to be. Parts of his personality are fake and manufactured and the "Clone" Jordan stuff can be annoying. He is a "Serial Killer" with a desire to win more than any other player in the NBA. Would I want to hang out with him not particularly, but would I want the ball in his hands last the five minutes of a game absolutely. He was never as "perfect" as the media made him out to be in the beginning of his career and was never as "bad" as the media made him out to be after Colorado incident. Lastly I want to sleep with his wife.

Those are opinions based off facts. I am not a fan. I like some players more than others but it never clouds my perspective of what I see on the court/field. You play well you will get recognition; you play badly I will expose it. Point blank period.

With that being said Darth Kobe lost the game last night for the Lakers. Even while he was torching the Magic in the 1st half I had my concerns. Here is a Tweet from me in the 2nd quarter:

The Magic shouldn't double Kobe. Better to let him keep shooting. One man can't beat you. Maybe ....

I saw what was happening before it happened. A lot of times when Kobe gets into the zone he freezes out his teammates. No matter how good you are if you keep jacking up contested fall away 20 footers eventually they will stop falling and more importantly it will disrupt the rhythm of the offense. No matter how good you are if you play 1 on 5 you will lose (ask Lebron). In the 3rd quarter Kobe started to miss and the Lakers became out of synch. They made their comeback with Bryant on the bench and when they had a chance to win the game it was Bryant's ill advised three and turnover that cost them the victory.

Don't get me wrong without his hot shooting to start they might have been down 30 in the first quarter. But when you are great you have to be held accountable for the entire 48 minutes and in this game Kobe came up short when he had an opportunity to bury the Magic. That is two games in a row where I saw Kobe revert to 2004-2007 Kobe and he should know by now he can't win a title playing like that. Will it come back to haunt him? Only time will tell.

Quick point about the Magic. They shot lights out for the game well over 60% from the field. Normally when you do that you win by 20, but they were barely holding on at the end. You knew they were going to get hot for one game but can they sustain it for three more?

I am not sure, but I know both teams are feeling confident going into Game 4. I predicted the Lakers in 6, so if I am the Lakers this is the game they absolutely have to have. If the Magic win they will have the momentum going forward.

Still think you are a Kobe Stan

What's up with your posts lately. All in all great article

Mick is a perfect example of what I am talking about.

Yo cleaning those up as we speak

Rob we all know your a Kobe stan, but don't worry there's nothing wrong with admitting you like the greatest player in the NBA. Steven A Smith does it every 15 seconds whenever hes on TV. Lakers still taking it in 6.

The Magic play one of the greatest games in NBA playoff history, set a field goal percentage record while they are at it, and put all dreams of brooms back into the closet and you still lead with a Kobe losing story over coverage of the Magic and their victory? Robert please get off of Kobe's dyck. And quit worrying about Mike Tyson. He is a grown azz man who has buried his child and married a woman in a two week span. Fascinating?
