Breaking News: Ron Artest Verbally Commits To The Los Angeles Lakers

Sources inside of Ron Artest's camp have confirmed with me a CBS Sports report that Artest has verbally committed to sign with the Los Angeles Lakers is true.

The person right now who is feeling sick is Trevor Ariza while he agent has been blowing smoke about him wanting out of LA privately I heard from his people that he didn't want to go.

He is definitely gone now.

What does this means for the Lakers? If Artest has his head on straight he is an upgrade over Ariza. In reality Ariza was a poor man Artest, so getting the real thing has to be a plus for the Lakers.

This helps Kobe Bryant more than anybody for two reasons:

1- An enforcer

All those "force" battles that Kobe has had over the years no longer will be necessary. Even though Kobe played the tough guy role no one ever took that seriously. Players take Ron Artest seriously unless the want a "Table Leg" in the chest.

2- Defense

Even though the Lakers won the NBA Championship you could still say their defense was suspect at best. No longer will Kobe have the responsibility of shutting down the best offensive wing player that will be Artest job now. That will save miles on Kobe's legs and make him even more efficient on the offensive end which is scary if you think about it.

Last year I thought Ron Artest was the missing piece for the Lakers to win a title of course in the end they didn't need him.

Getting him this year I believe solidifies them as the favorite to go back to back.

There is one major risk. We are talking about Ron Artest. I personally don't believe there is anything to worry about. I think Ron's reputation is a lot worse than he really is. I don't think you have to worry about him going after a fan and punching Jack Nicholson in the face. I think the possible reward far outweigh the risks.

This also makes the Lakers must see TV and the most marketable team in the league again.

Did I mention they also get back a healthy Andrew Bynum? If they sign Lamar Odom as expected it is hard to see a weakness on their squad.

Everyone hold on to your table legs this will be interesting.

Artest to the Lakers! Is it true? Ariza should fire his agent. If the Lakers can get Odom back and Artest can kick Bynum's butt to motivate him, we could see another great year ahead.

Maybe we might see this Cav's Lakers match up we all were hoping for(if Trevor goes to the cav's watch out!). The NBA might be back to it's old form.

hahahaha. robert, i haven't seen you use "table leg" in so long. i love it.

david lee, you stupid idiot.

I just lost

Maybe finally the Lakers will have a team with "heart" that they have'nt had for so long due to having so many niceguys and too many european imports who just dont have that American muscle.

Shon, the Lakers did just win the title right? That was the same team that lost only two games to the top four teams in the league? Or did I just imagine last season? What team in pro sports history won a title without heart? Where on the fucking planet does that team exist?

The Lakers might win seventy games next year. I hadn't heard the part about Ariza not wanting to go. He shouldn't just fire his agent, he should sue his punk ass.

I agree with you that the Lakers will be better and that I don't think they have anything to worry about regarding Artest's behavior but he earned his reputation fair and square. He's a nutcase who, luckily, has matured. That riot was no joke AND he went after the wrong dude! Not to mention he should be locked up for his rap album anyway. He's lucky he's a ballplayer.
