The Football gods have heard Mechelle McNair’s cries and a paternity test has proven that Clover Lee’s 17 year daughter, J.N.L is NOT Steve McNair’s illegitimate child. Let athletes’ wives everywhere rejoice.
“We were friends, and I never tried to harm him,” Lee said “We dated in high school, and we kept it a secret. I knew him before he was an NFL player when he didn’t have a dime. When he got killed, I had no other choice.”
I guess no other choice now would involve picking up the phone and calling those other potential baby daddies but then again, none of them are probably worth $19.6 million dead or alive.

In the most distasteful fashion ever, a new development has popped up just in time to steal some of the spotlight away from new evidence in the Steve McNair murder-suicide case. A Mississippi woman by the name of Clover Lee has stepped forward declaring that McNair fathered her 17 year old daughter (identified only as J.N.L.) and that she deserves her piece of McNair’s estate valued at an estimated $19.6 million. The woman is demanding that “all back due support as allowed by law” be paid.
Its one thing to be sexually assaulted or abused and being fearful about coming forward against your attacker however coming forward 17 years after your child is born with the child’s alleged paternity is another thing. One can only imagine what Mechelle McNair is feeling who not only is still grieving the loss of her husband and children’s father but must also divide up Steve McNair’s estate amongst her children (Trenton, 6, and Tyler, 11) with Steve and his other two children from previous relationships (Steve McNair Jr., 17, and Steven O’Brian Koran McNair, 15). The McNair widow has filed a petition to the court naming Steve’s four children as heirs in addition to requesting that she be allowed to retain ownership over all property, cars and household furniture.
Any minute now, I’m expecting Maury Povich to enter stage left with the paternity test results declaring “Steve McNair, You Are The Father!” and Maury’s security guards rushing the stage to pull apart Mechelle as she lunges at Clover’s grinning face. As the saying goes, there is a time and place for everything so why Clover Lee decided to wait 17 years and 3 months after Steve McNair’s death is a mystery within itself. It’s already been proven that Steve McNair has had his share of affairs however whether it was a teenage love affair when he was 19 years old or an 8 month whirldwind affair right before his death, somewhere someone needs to draw the line.
