According to reports, cornerback Darrelle Revis is seeking a contract from the Jets worth an estimated $20 million/season… *blank stare*
The National Football Post reports:
“Revis and his agent, Neil Schwartz, are looking for an average that exceeds $20 million per year — which will make the contract rather hard to do.”
Reports also shed light on the fact that the negotiation of Revis’ first contract was problematic to say the least, which has put them in the position they are in at the present.
Revis threw some subliminals last week hinting at him holding out of training camp if his deal was not rewritten as he said the club promised.
GM Mike Tannenbaum told ESPN Radio:
“”Our expectation is he’ll retire a Jet many years from now.”
Just in case you’re wondering – the only players in the NFL that made $20 million last season were all quarterbacks. These elite earners included: Chargers QB Philip Rivers ($25.5M), Bears QB Jay Cutler ($22M), and Giants QB Eli Manning ($20.5M). These figures have bonuses and incentives included.
Now I’m not hating, by all means get your money, but is one season of good play enough to convince me that Revis is worth more than Peyton Manning?…..*Whitney Houston Voice* HELL TO THE NAW!
