“The Boss” George Steinbrenner Immortalized in Monument Park in Yankee Stadium

Earlier this year George Steibrenner, architect of the Yankee Empire as we know it today, passed away. He long since relinquished official duties to sons because of failing health but was still involved until the end.   Today the Yankees dedicated a a monument to “The Boss” in Monument Park. Details:

Kim Jones reports via Yankees PR: “GMS monument details from Yankees PR: manufactured by US Bronze (Hyde Park, NY), 7 ft. by 5 ft. high, not including base. Weighs 760 lbs.”

Impressive considering the size of other monuments. But would anyone argue against it not being that big? He arguably biggest name in franchisee history not named Babe Ruth.

As for content of Monument we have it via bloggingbombers.

“New York Yankees Principal Owner “The Boss” 1973 – 2010 Purchased the New York Yankees on January 3, 1973. A true visionary who changed the game of baseball forever, he was considered the most influential owner in all of sports. In his 37 years as Principal Owner, the Yankees posted a Major League-best .566 winning percentage, while winning 11 American League pennants and seven World Series titles, becoming the most recognizable sports brand in the world. A devoted sportsman, he was Vice President of the United States Olympic Committee, a member of the Baseball Hall of Fame’s Board of Directors and a member of the NCAA Foundation Board of Trustees. A great philanthropist whose charitable efforts were mostly performed without fanfare, he followed a personal motto of the greatest form of charity is anonymity. Dedicated by the New York Yankees September 20, 2010.”

It’s not anything that hasn’t been said before, but still, it reminds us of all and we be there for future generation of what “The Boss’ was all about(assuming 2012 doesn’t happen). Joe Torre who has been “persona non grata” with Yankees even made his way to commemoration of monument. Who knows, he might have a monument one day… Bud Selig also made an appearance. See video highlights via ESPN..And if you need more on Steinbrenner, Espn will have a 30 on 30 special tomorrow, The House of Steinbrenner. Should be good.

Aight, thats it, stay classy folk…
