Chris “Time To Die” Rainey Reinstated By Florida Gators

You may recall Chris Rainey as the Florida Gator Wide Receiver that sent his ex girlfriend a “Time to Die” text and was subsequently arrested on stalking charges.

Rainey was suspended from the Gators and eventually copped a plea that made sure he didn’t get any jail time.

He was the 30th player arrested under Urban Meyer’s watch at Florida.

The Gators who have struggled on offense this year, quietly let Rainey back on the team.  Here are the details:

“Chris Rainey is working toward being part of our football team again,” Meyer said. “I’m disappointed that he violated a core value of our program, but he continues to pay a price for his actions. Chris will have to meet a set of conditions to become a part of our team again and although he is practicing, he will not play this weekend. The timetable for his return will depend on his ability to follow the guidelines we have laid out for him.”

Of course this has started quite a discussion (you read an animated one over at the Gator Envy Forum).

I don’t have a problem with Meyer allowing him back on the team under certain conditions.

He didn’t break his girlfriend’s jaw, drive drunk or get caught with 38 weed plants.

I am sure Rainey would say he wasn’t literally threatening to kill his ex-girlfriend when he sent that text, but in 2010 you can never be sure.

I hope Rainey has learned his lesson—anything that you send text, bbm, email and voicemails can be used against you.

If you are feeling angry or out of control, just walk away.
