Over the weekend we reported on the three Southern Mississippi football players who were shot outside of a Club early Sunday morning.
At last report they were all thought to be in fair condition and their injuries weren’t life threatening.
Now information is coming out that Martez Smith may have suffered paralysis from his gun shot wound. Here are the details:
Martez Smith of Canton, Tim Green of Columbia, South Carolina and Deddrick Jones from Bastrop, La., are listed in fair condition.
The shooting happened at about 1:35 a.m., police said. A fight that started inside the Remington Hunt Club in Hattiesburg, spilled outside and led to the shooting, police said. No arrests have been made. The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation and U.S. marshals are investigating the shooting.
Smith played for Velma Jackson High School before going to USM.
“My son called me and told me he couldn’t move his legs,” said James Smith, Martez Smith’s grandfather.
The news brought tears to Smith’s grandfather’s eyes.
James Smith learned Sunday, his grandson, Martez Smith may be paralyzed.
Hopefully it is just temporary and Smith regains movements in his legs, just a sad story all the way around.
Just remember there is no altercation worth being shot over, just walk away.
