I am not sure who is coaching the Icon Cam Newton on his public speaking, but they should be fired. The interesting thing about this comment is that if you really think about, it could be a reason why teams should be fearful of drafting Newton.
One year wonders are hard to gauge.
When a player comes out of nowhere to dominant you have to wonder did he catch lightening in a bottle, did teams not have a lot of time to adjust or is he really that good?
With quarterbacks it is even harder, especially with ones who don’t practice and come from a pro style system. But according to Icon Cam that doesn’t matter.
“I’m aware of that statement,” Newton told Dan Wetzel of Yahoo. “I don’t want to sound arrogant but I did something in one year people couldn’t do in their whole collegiate careers. We had a chance to do something great and we did it.”
“Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers, you look at how good they are every year,” Newton said. “The question is how do they do it? Nothing you can point to but hard work. In the offseason. In the regular season.”
Does Icon Cam want to put in that hard work or is he happy with a lot of endorsements and being a fake icon?
Only he knows that, but if he assumes because he had one great year in college that automatically he will dominant in the pros, he will get a rude awakening.
