I am not sure whose idea was it to speak to Delonte West about his philosophies on Valentine’s day, but whoever it was they should get a raise.
You can read the entire interview here (trust me it is worth it) it was done back in 2006, but who cares because it is classic. The last question they asked him after he talks about yachts, onion breath, breaking lamps and etc, he says something very profound.
“One more thing: When we’re on the yacht eating, we’re going to have some Popeye’s chicken. That’s for dinner. It’s to let her know, put a mental image on her mind, first and foremost, if you ain’t from the hood, you don’t like Popeye’s chicken. Everyone there loves Popeye’s chicken and the biscuits — phew. But that’s just getting it on her mind, saying, you know, ‘Yeah, I can wine and dine you, but I’m a little rough around the edges and I’m keeping it real with you. I can be romantic, but this is real, we’re going to eat some chicken tonight. Chicken and biscuits.'”
If I could frame that and put it in every man’s office or man cave I would.
I couldn’t have said it better myself, now the fact that Delonte is a bit crazy, but speaks with such clarity in his analogy about Popeye’s and keeping women grounded is a bit odd, but when you think about it………
