Amar’e Stoudemire: “Fashion Makes Me Feel Elegant and Rich”

Part of the reason that modern day NBA players are trying to create Superfriends teams is that it gives them a better chance to win championships.

Another part, though, is to better position themselves in “high society”.

Some people have an issue with that— personally I don’t care.  Unlike what NFL players are saying, being a professional athlete is not slavery. So if you want to go play in NYC, LA or on South Beach because the parties are better, more power to you.

If you win, it won’t matter what happens off the court. But if you lose, be prepared for the backlash.

Amar’e Stoudemire has used his move to the Knicks to increase his profile and in the April issue of Vogue magazine. Here is what he had to say about his fashion sense:

When you put your fashion on — you know, your tailor-made suits or bow ties and fedoras — you feel like you’re swagger. You feel elegant and rich

This might be the first time I have heard a man talking about feeling “elegant”, but whatever floats your boat.  As long as that swagger translates to on the court performance, there won’t be any problems.

Because if it doesn’t, Amar’e will still be rich, but he won’t be a winner.
