Earlier today Kansas became the final 1-seed to lose in this year’s tournament. Kansas had the easiest road to the final four by far, but they squandered it. The highest seed that Kansas had to play on their road to the Final Four was 9-seed Illinois and yet they still could not pull it off. (1) Kansas losing to (11) VCU is apparently a shock to many people but looking a Kansas’ past tournament showings this should come as no surprise. Let’s take a quick look at Kansas under Bill Self:
2003-04 Elite Eight
2004-05 First Round
2005-06 First Round
2006-07 Elite Eight
2007-08 National Champions
2008-09 Sweet Sixteen
2009-10 Second Round
2010-11 Elite Eight
During this time Kansas has been no less than a 4-seed. Kansas does damage during the regular season to earn these good seeds, but man do they disappoint during tournament time. I won’t pretend like I had VCU beating Kansas in the Elite 8 because I didn’t have either team making it this far, but what I really don’t understand is why people continually hype them up each year and then act astonished when they lose.
I really hope President Obama doesn’t fall for their “greatness” again next year. We all know the saying “fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me” so shame on you Mr. President for letting Kansas fool you again this year! Big shout out though to VCU for proving America wrong and proving your tournament worthiness!
