We haven’t heard from Marty B in awhile (probably a good thing), but he is very high on the talents of Jon Kitna.
So high in fact that he wishes there was a quarterback competition for the Cowboys starting job.
“I loved playing with Kitna,” tight end Martellus Bennett said during a Tuesday appearance on ESPN 103.3’s Ben & Skin Show. “Kitna is one of my favorite people to play with. Just being out there on the field with that guy just makes you play even harder. He made some things happen in limited time, so I think if he got a longer chance, he’d be able to do more.
“I hope there’s a chance for a quarterback competition this year. Every position, I think we need to put more competition into it.”
I agree with Marty B, just because you are getting paid the most money doesn’t mean you should automatically start. Not that I think Jon Kitna, is better than Tony Romo (I don’t), but if it came to a point that he was a better option, you should play the best players.
The one problem I see is that Marty B isn’t the only Cowboys player who has hinted at this, meaning Tony Romo’s hold on the locker room is shaky at best. Whenever the season starts, the Cowboys better get off to fast start or the whispers about how Romo isn’t a franchise quarterback will turn into shouts.
