Who in the blue hell is Hines Ward to tell anyone their opinion isn’t a good one?
Before I get into that, here is what Ward said.
“Everybody’s entitled to their opinion,” Ward told ESPN. “But that wasn’t a good opinion.”
“If that’s your opinion leave it as your opinion,” Ward said. “When you tweet that out there, you have to deal with the backlashes that come with that. You put everybody out there because everywhere we go we get asked questions about the comments you made. When you tweet like that, you’ve got to be careful. I’m not a big tweeter because sometimes your emotions get caught up, you speak your mind and it’s not always the best thing to say.”
The second part of what Ward said I agree with, but the part I will continue to have an issue with is people trying to qualify Mendenhall’s opinion as a “bad one”.
It is a different opinion, a controversial opinion and an unpopular opinion, doesn’t make it a “bad opinion”. That is the problem with our society if anyone has an opinion that isn’t the majority it is automatically a “bad opinion”.
The whole point of an opinion is it is yours, not anyone’s else. Mendenhall’s opinion wasn’t good or bad, it was his opinion. How would Ward like to be told his opinions weren’t “good ones”.
Once again I have no problem with people saying they “disagree” with Mendenhall’s opinion or even saying that putting his opinion out on twitter wasn’t the best idea, but to say his opinion was wrong or bad is asinine and speaks to the drone mentality that is prevalent in our society.
