“We have been hosting these camps for several years in many of our markets,” said DTLR Community Outreach Manager Sherri Goodall. “We developed a strong relationship with the host players and have impacted many of the students’ lives who have attended. Students always tell us that they learn more at our one-day camp from the players than they do from other week-long camps. They thank us for giving them access to the players and for bringing players to the table who are passionate about their success on an off the field.”
Camp participants will perform agility drills, offensive and defensive fundamentals broken down by position and seven-on-seven passing drills. Parents and students will receive an overview of the college recruiting process by a representative from National Collegiate Scouting Association (NCSA) and have an opportunity to engage the host players and their NFL friends during a question and answer session.
“This is by far the most comprehensive and dynamic football camp in Georgia,” said Atlanta Falcons’ Defensive End Chauncey Davis. “Each of the players involved takes a very hands-on approach to every drill and every youth participant. Thanks to the continued support of DTLR and our other partners, we are able to provide students with a full view of what happens both on and off the gridiron.”
Davis’ Falcons’ teammate and NFL Pro Bowl Nominee Jonathan Babineaux added: “We designed the football camp with DTLR to be more than a football clinic for student athletes. In addition to the rare opportunity to learn actual drills and techniques used by NFL veterans like Chauncey, Daniel and myself, parents can learn about the ACT/SAT process and college recruitment while their kids are on the gridiron with us. We wanted student athletes to learn early the academic and athletic requirements to be recruited as a college athlete. Good grades and academics combined with excellent athletic discipline are the first steps toward becoming a NFL player. Kudos to DTLR also for ensuring that this event remains free for our kids.”
“I am excited to give back to my community who has been a great support in my athletic career by hosting a free football camp at my alma mater, Morgan State University,” said Shiancoe. “My passion for health/fitness will be show at the camp to show kids what it takes to work hard on the field and in the classroom as a student athlete.”
Additional camp partners include The Athletic Group and Y-Sportz Magazine.
