Novak Djokovic knocked off Rafael Nadal to notch his first Wimbledon championship today. The no. 1 rated tennis player in the world received criticism before the win today because he hadn’t won a major, but silenced his critics on his way to a Wimbledon victory.
“This is the best day of my life,” Djokovic said after the victory. “I’m still sleeping and having my dream.”
Djokovic also has two Australian Open victories to go with this win. Nadal, who has 10 majors and two Wimbledon championships, lost 4-6, 1-6, 6-1, 3-6.
The win today improved Djokovic’s record in 2011 to 48-1 with five of the victories coming against the defending Wimbledon champ Nadal.
