Tonight is one of the most anticipated pay per views in recent WWE history. For the first time in a long time, fans have no real idea how the main event is going to go down. A lot of people are predicting that Punk will win the title from Cena and then Alberto Del Rio will cash in the Money in the Bank contract he won earlier in the night with the help of Vince McMahon, setting up Del Rio vs Cena at SummerSlam and Punk’s eventual return. That sounds plausible, but for the sake of argument, lets see if WWE takes a different approach.
I have gone back and looked at the CM Punk worked shoot and I noticed something interesting. He never says he is winning the WWE championship. On three occasions he says he will be “leaving with the WWE championship”. It could be playing semantics, but it does leave a little bit of room for interpretation. He will be leaving with the belt regardless of if he wins or lose. The way I see it, Cena wins with the help of Vince McMahon, and while they are arguing about Cena being able to have won it clean, Punk comes to and walks out with the belt.
The possibilities from there are interesting. McMahon can plead with Punk to return his title, Punk can show up at arenas with a ticket and mock Vince. Cena can grow more and more frustrated that he doesn’t have his title.
Punk’s final play will be to destroy or defacing Cena’s spinner belt, leading to the unveiling of a new championship belt that is not Cena-specific.
As for the rest of the matches, here are some quick hits.
World heavyweight champion Randy Orton vs. Christian
Christian held the belt for 5 days and then lost it to Orton. A heel turn and a series of great promos later, Christian is poised to win back the belt.
He wont. Frustrated and screwed Christian has a lot more mileage, so expect him to lose and keep playing the same role. Another route, have him win the title and lose it to the Smackdown Money in the Bank Ladder Match Winner. This would further the angle and get some (hopefully) new blood in the title mix.
Raw Money in the Bank Ladder Match (Evan Bourne, Alberto Del Rio, Kofi Kingston, The Miz, Rey Mysterio, R-Truth, Alex Riley, Jack Swagger)
Everybody expects Alberto Del Rio to walk away with the briefcase, but I think they can use the match to elevate some the same way The Miz was elevated when he cashed in his title match. The man to do that? Alex Riley. The Miz’ apprentice wins like his mentor did, further infuriating his former partner.
Smackdown Money in the Bank Ladder Match (Wade Barrett, Daniel Bryan, Sin Cara, Justin Gabriel, Kane, Cody Rhodes, Sheamus and Heath Slater)
This match has 3 people who have no business winning (Gabriel, Slater and Sin Cara) and 2 people who have had a great feud but shouldn’t be elevated (Rhodes and Brayan). That leaves Kane, Barrett and Sheamus. Only one of that group who hasn’t held the title and would benefit from the bump is Wade Barrett, so I’ll go with him.
The Big Show vs. Mark Henry
This will not be a mat classic, but the feud has been somewhat entertaining, but they always seem to find a way to screw over Mark Henry. I see The Big Show winning, stalling all the momentum Henry has been building.
WWE Divas champion Kelly Kelly vs. Brie Bella
Kelly Kelly is horrible. So she will win, unless the Bella’s do the Killer Bees switch when the ref isn’t looking.
That’s it, post your thought below and be sure to check back tomorrow for our exclusive interview with Justin Deming, the man who is tattooing the WWF Winged Eagle Title Belt across his belly.
