This expansion thing in the NCAA is real, and in this game it is survival of the fittest. You got to eat, before you get ate. The Big East is trying to stay alive as far as BCS automatic qualifiers go as it is believed that the conference plans to invite Boise State, Navy and Air Force to join for football. Houston, SMU, and Central Florida will receive a full invitation for all sports.
Tuesday the presidents of each current Big East school voted unanimously to extend these invitations.
If the move is made, the conference plans to split into an eastern and western division. Boise State, Air Force, SMU and Houston would be placed in the west, whereas Navy and UCF would be in the east.
To the common football fan, these moves may not have much sizzle to them, but all six of the programs would be a really nice addition to a league thin on big names.
SMU is a program on the rise with a win on the road over TCU and just landed former Texas starting quarterback Garret Gilbert. Navy is rebuilding post Ricky Dobbs. Houston is currently undefeated with an explosive offense. Air Force and Central Florida are solid programs to add depth.
Boise State could potentially be the big winner of all of realignment if it makes this move and the Big East is able to keep its automatic BCS bid. With the way that program is running, Boise would run this conference for years to come.
