Worthy of a spot on NBC Dateline: How to Catch a Predator, this story could have been lost in a pile of “pointless news” if it weren’t for the fact that the “predator” is a former Penn State University Defensive Coordinator. The accusations and charges, 40 or so of them, are the main focus, but what is more disturbing is Jerry Sandusky worked with at-risk children through the nonprofit Second Mile organization he founded in 1977. His “recruiting pool” was vast and that is what makes this more horrible. A quote from the Huffington Post story confirms:
Former defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky, 67, was arrested Saturday and released on $100,000 bail after being arraigned on 40 criminal counts, according to the office of the state attorney general, Linda Kelly. She called Sandusky “a sexual predator who used his position within the university and community to repeatedly prey on young boys.”
ESPN reports that Penn State A.D. Tim Curley being charged with perjury and a failure to report sexual abuse.
