New York Giants’ Tom Coughlin Named NFL’s Least Desired Coach

Sigh… It never does end for Tom Coughlin in New York. Despite having a successful coaching resume and a Super Bowl ring under his belt, the coach of the New York Giants continues to be an unpopular figure in the NFL. In a midseason poll conducted by, Tom Coughlin came out on top as the least desired coach.

Which coach would you least like to play for? Tom Coughlin, New York Giants-22 … Tony Sparano, Miami Dolphins-21 … Bill Belichick, New England Patriots-15 … Pete Carroll, Seattle Seahawks-6 … Todd Haley, Kansas City Chiefs-5 … Jim Harbaugh, San Francisco 49ers-5 … Rex Ryan, New York Jets-5 …

For some reason, I don’t understand the backlash towards Coughlin. He isn’t the greatest motivator and not the most charismatic guy, but at the end of the day his guys come ready to play on Sundays. His Giants currently lead the NFC East at 6-2 and are coming off a big win in Foxboro against the Patriots. Coughlin has already won a Super Bowl with the Giants and took the Jaguars to two AFC Title games, and yet the respect isn’t there.

This is evidenced by the comments of an anonynous NFC player that chimed in:

“Looking at it from the outside, I don’t know that any player in the league would say they’d want to play for Tom Coughlin. I wouldn’t.” — NFC defensive player.

Call me crazy but i’d rather play for a winner like Tom Coughlin before a charismatic, unproven coach like Rex Ryan.
