Urban Meyer Denies He’s New Coach of Ohio State Buckeyes as Rumors Swirl

As you know I am an alum of The Ohio State University.

I am still connected to the University in a big way and this is what I am being told. Short version is that it is highly likely that Urban Meyer will be the next coach of the Buckeyes, but based on Meyer’s history of being wishy washy and the fact there is no signed contract it is definitely not a done deal.

Sports By Brooks whose reporting we respect very much says multiple sources have confirmed that Meyer has accepted the job and is putting together a staff.

The deal between Meyer and Ohio State was consummated in principle earlier this week in Columbus but not signed. It includes a multi-year contract that will make Meyer once again one of college football’s highest paid coaches.

In additon to Meyer’s generous compensation package, sources said a major factor in the coach’s decision to agree to take the position was the school promising him the budget to assemble what is expected to become the highest-paid assistant coaching staff in college football history.

Of that staff, sources indicate Meyer’s intial plan is to retain current Ohio State head football coach Luke Fickell and current Buckeye wide receivers coach Stan Drayton.

Meyer also aims to add Chris Spielman, Kirk Herbstreit, current North Carolina State linebackers coach Jon Tenuta and current LSU offensive line coach Greg Studwara to his Ohio State staff.

According to SB Nation Meyer is denying everything.

I can only tell you what Urban just texted me back about rumor that he has accepted job at Ohio State — “No truth to it.” — @pat_dooley via Twitter

Meyer is not beyond lying, so take his denial with a grain of salt.

In the end it is more likely that Meyer becomes the next coach of Ohio State than not, so stay tune.
