Albert Pujols Receives 10-Year Offer from Marlins

We all knew that when Albert Pujols hit the free agent market this offseason, he would garner oodles of attention from around the league, but did anyone see the Marlins making such a splash?

The Marlins are in the middle of a complete transformation having changed their name from Florida to Miami, donning new uniforms, and calling a new stadium home beginning next season. These are slight modifications compared to their new approach towards signing free agent players.

Can we now consider the Marlins the Yankees of the National League, or at the very least a distant cousin? The organization has made it known that they are players at the winter meetings having already agreed with Jose Reyes on a huge contract and meeting with coveted prize, Albert Pujols, a second time; not to mention being linked to pitchers CJ Wilson and Mark Buerhle. Reports this morning from ESPN suggest that a third meeting between Pujols and Miami is already scheduled for next Monday, and that they have offered him a 10-year deal.

We are all used to the Marlins being a short-sighted franchise with their win a title and dump the roster shortly thereafter strategy. They have won two championships with this model in their relatively brief history, but they have had a hard time gaining consistent support from the fans. It took them a while to do anything about this, but they seem to be making up for lost time.
