Things haven’t been going right for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers lately. After a 4-2 start, the Bucs have lost six straight games, quarterback Josh Freeman hasn’t been playing his best and was out with an injury this past Sunday, and head coach Raheem Morris pulled defensive tackle Brian Price out of Sunday’s game and sent him home after he was called for a personal foul in the third quarter.
Now, news has come out that running back LeGarrette Blount is accused of “directing” two of his friends to attack a man, who happened to be a Bucs fan, back in September.
Profootballtalk.com has the details.
According to the police report, the victim hit the mirror on a car that Blount and two friends were standing next to. The three men jumped in the car, cut off the victim’s truck, and wound up punching the driver many times until he blacked out with his girlfriend in the seat next to him. Both the victim and the girlfriend were wearing Bucs shirts at the time.
One of the men allegedly jumped on the windshield of the victim’s truck until it smashed.
The police did not pursue charges because the victim ”feared that by pursuing his attackers he would be putting himself in danger.”
After the story got out, the Bucs front office said it was aware of what happened.
“LeGarrette Blount immediately informed the organization of this situation back in September. We have reviewed the incident report and spoken with the police. The Tampa Police Department confirmed that the case is closed,” Buccaneers Director of Communications Jonathan Grella said in a statement to PFT.
Blount’s lawyer Ryan Morgan told the St. Petersburg Times that Blount didn’t do anything and when the victim found out who Blount was, he called the team asking for $95,000 or he would go public with the story.
This story just sounds fishy on both sides.
Blount is known to have a violent temper (he punched a Boise State player after a game while he was with Oregon) so who knows if he sicced his goons on the guy. On the other hand, the dude could be lying on Blount to get a few G’s.
Who knows.
All I know is that the Bucs doesn’t need anymore drama the rest of the season. Blount isn’t expected to be punished for this.
