Devon Alexander Makes Impression at 147 & Broner Continues Down Mayweather’s Road

This was a make or break fight for Alexander. He had not looked good in his previous three fights and even though he got the decision in two of them, many thought he lost all three.

The one thing you can say about Alexander is he doesn’t duck anyone and Marcos Maidana was the exact type of fighter he has had problems with.

Alexander said part of the problem in his poor performances was struggling to make 140 weight limit and you would see a different Alexander at 147.

To tell you the truth I didn’t believe him, but he proved me wrong as he dominated Maidana over ten rounds. There was zero question who was the best fighter, as he hurt Maidana several times with powerful combinations while staying out of harm’s way.

The only minor critique would be he could have knocked out Maidana if he was a better finisher, but he played it safe and cruised to the decision.

Alexander has a lot of options at 147 and while he isn’t in the market for a megafight, more good money HBO fights are in his future.

The real star of the evening was Adrien Broner.

Broner who says he has patterned himself after Floyd Mayweather and Roy Jones Jr is playing the villain role to a tee. He came into the ring rapping to his own song and then with a lot of flair KOed his opponent.

Broner has star potential written all over him and he has the one thing that Mayweather does not, true one punch knock out power.

And if you were wondering yes, his father did brush his hair.
